G. I. Raffe
I have a couple of questions about ableton 5: In Ableton 4, there used to be a drop down menu of presets that appeared when you seletected a VST, that seems to have dissapeared now? Also I want to make a pattern in the arrangement view, and replicate it rathar than duplicate it.. so that when I change one pattern, the others will change too. If that makes sense Cheers Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide G. I. Raffe's signature Hide all signatures @thegianttweets I am a Giant. Guest Iain C
I don't have it in front of me because I'm at college, but I think the presets are in the sample/vst browser on the left hand side now... if you click a little icon that looks like two arrows or something in the VST's title bar, it opens a list of the presets in the browser. I know that's a case with the bundled plugins, to be fair I'm not really sure about third-party VSTs but I think it's the same. Also I'm not sure what you're getting at with the second question, do you mean having two different copies of the same pattern in the arrangement, separate from each other? In that case I'm pretty sure they'll always be separate and you'll just have to copy-paste it over. But I could be misinterpreting you :-D Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/2324-ableton-5-users/#findComment-45862 Share on other sites
Guest ~ism
the preset system has changed in 5. but you should still have presets dropping down on the device menu (on the actual device itself). but... things can go wrong to fuck this up...happened to me recently, but i figured it out. you need to make sure that your Presets folder (with presets for all devices and plugins) is in the correct route directory as set with the Library location in Preferences. It's usually in My Documents/Ableton/Presets or something other, im in work so cannot remember. The reason you dont see any is because something isnt where it should be. I just remembered you are on Mac - so ignore the directory above - will be different for you. can't help...other than to suggest what the problem is...you might be better placed to figure out the solution. See Preferences - there is a part in there that allows you to specifiy the Library path. Make sure your presets are there. Do a system files search of preset files to find them...cant mind the suffix...im sure someone can help...who is in front of their machine. As for the duplicate patterns question - elaborate...not quite sure what you mean? Guest ~ism
sorry - i understand what you mean now about patterns. you mean you want to do a few bar loop of midi and then make another clip...or several...and then if you alter some notes in the original clip, they all change to follow suit? it is possible - im sure this normally happens by default - but again - when you are not in front of something...the brain has to think about what you do subconciously...and canny mind. will come back to this later tonight when home. sorry for being useless. sure mosca can help. Besides, it's rather annoying. I much prefered the drop down menu in 4. any way of getting this back. Probably not ~ism said: the preset system has changed in 5. but you should still have presets dropping down on the device menu (on the actual device itself). but... things can go wrong to fuck this up...happened to me recently, but i figured it out. you need to make sure that your Presets folder (with presets for all devices and plugins) is in the correct route directory as set with the Library location in Preferences. Yep that's it exactly. Doesn't happen by default, when I click and drag+copy a pattern in the arrangement view, it becomes a separtate pattern Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide G.
