Guest burnibus
Ey up folks im in the market for some new gear and keeping my mind pretty open. Im looking for something with sequencing capabilities and pretty diverse. Definately dont want just another drum machine, looking for soemthing that can handle decent melodies. MC505's are they any good, does anyone have one? ive seen the odd one advertised at a reasonable price so would appreciate your advice / opinions. Guest Adjective
i have an mc505 the synths are crunchy and aliased, most of the samples are a bit that way you boot right into presets which is annoying, because your tracks will be down a menu, who wants to boot into "psy-trance pattern 1" ? but i have a lot of fun on it when i do play around on it if you're looking for something fun to play with then go for it if you want something "serious" then i don't think the mc505 is what you're after here's some things i made on it Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag http://sopor.us/adjective/audio/mc505/Adje...%20-%20bint.ogg Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag http://sopor.us/adjective/audio/mc505/ADJ%...l-07-505-01.mp3 Your browser does not support the HTML5 audio tag http://sopor.us/adjective/audio/mc505/Adje...ay12505-808.mp3 (mc505 controlling sp808) you may want to play around with some of the korg electribes, at least with those you'll be able to see them in a music store and demo first Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23377-mc505/#findComment-488426 Share on other sites
Guest burnibus
Cheers bud, I have an electibe EM1 which is great for drums and some nice bass lines but only two synth parts and the synths are a bit basic so im looking for accompanying hardware to allow me more melodic freedom. Dont suppose you have used a NORD LEAD at all? how are these, i know they have a great sounds, i was thinking of using it so each of the 4 parts play a different sound / rythm. How easy is this to do? Sorry for being a dumbass its just the music shops that sell synths and stuff round here aren't necessarily full of like minded people and see stuff like the Nordlead as just a cheesy lead synth. I may just save up and get a Monomachine. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23377-mc505/#findComment-488478 Share on other sites

BCM
i've just bought one of these: sounds aren't much cop (just XG sounds), but they're usable - i'm writing some pretty fucking cool tracks using just this and a multitracker at the moment.....will be posted soon-ish.... anyway, yeah, fucking well good as a sequencer though - gonna use it to control all sorts of things.... cheap too! Guest furrybum
we use an mc 505 with my band and it can get some great noises. they can be a bit tempremental though. Like adjective said, they're fun to play with. The electribes are better. I have the EMX. Live we hook up an EMX, ESX and the mc505. Together they sound awesome. On their own the emx sounds too korg, and the 505 sounds too nu-skool rolandy but together they sound blummin ace!! BCM
they're actually a bit more that that now - quite popular again - you can get an MC303 on ebay for about £130 and the 505's are going for about £220. even the electribes are pretty steep unless you want an EA1 or an ER1 and they're both pretty shit really. Guest dnoyes
check out the yamaha RS7000.. i sold one a couple years ago to build money up to buy my virus indigo- i plan to buy another one, and recently seen one for $400.00 on ebay. this machine has way more capabilitys then the mc 505 ,great onboard synth ...in my opinion the best sequencer a groovebox type kit has to this day and excellent sampling functions-please dont buy a mc 303 either.. you would be very disapointed with it. the rs7000 is also expandable for more outputs and other goodies as well. the mc 505 is okay but i really recomend checking out the yamaha rs7000 http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/rs7000.shtml check it out my freind its good stuff Edited July 19, 2007 by dnoyes Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23377-mc505/#findComment-495480 Share on other sites

Guest Rook
There is one of these around the corner for 400 smacks. (200 quid). Should I buy it? Is is worth it? I would probably never get it except for the fact that it is currently around the corner. Guest Vegeta897
I'd be more inclined to buy one if the screens weren't starting to die. (Most of the ones I've seen on eBay say that some pixels are missing on those screens) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23377-mc505/#findComment-667151 Share on other sites
Guest Rook
screen seemed to work fine on the one around the corner. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23377-mc505/#findComment-667207 Share on other sites
Guest Adjective
honestly, only get it if you want a new a toy. and $400 seems high i'd sell you mine for less, but only Rook Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23377-mc505/#findComment-667458 Share on other sites
Guest Rook
haha thanks man, but I think I will probably pass. I like the idea of having a toy groove box just to fool around with, but I mean, I really need to keep saving for stuff I really need to get in the next few months. I sorta just like the idea of walking into a local pawn shop and finding a rare piece of gear for cheep and buying it. But if it is too expensive, than I'm just gonna pass.
