Guest Mental Eclipse
I've been using the tutorials in "Ableton: Live 6" to figure out how to record MIDI; however I've met a problem that I can't seem to figure out using their site or manual. Basically, when I record a VST plug-in, the sound is very delayed. Every note is delayed about half a second. This makes Ableton Live basically impossible for me to use in the way I was hoping. Does anyone know how to fix this? Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/23807-vst-recording-delay/ Share on other sites

Does anyone know how to fix this? I used to have this problem. I thought maybe it was because I used my PC keyboard for MIDI input, but then I remembered that it communicates with my PC instantly. I'd be interested to find out why you're having the problem as well. sisforawesome
directsound drivers have like, 50ms delay or something which isn't a half a second, but it's surely noticable. it goes away if you get an asio enabled soundcard and use that rather than the directsound drivers. from what i understand, midi through directsound has to go through windows and validate before it comes back or something, which is why there is such a high delay. but with asio, it's going straight to the soundcard and out so it's like, 5-6ms or so. Guest Promo
Yeah, you're gonna get latency unless you get a pro card or use asio4all. However even with asio4all, from memory, one still can get latency from an internal soundcard which doesn't make sense to me. sisforawesome
yeah, i don't really understand asio4all, but i haven't taken the time to look into it really. i've got an audiophile 2496 which works perfectly. 6ms latency, and i never get crackling/hissing .
