Closes Volume 1 - Real?

1: the track names & numbers seem to tally (I know this is also the case with fakes so stick with me)

 

2: some of the tracks ARE definitely BOC, parts of which have cropped up on later releases/leaks like "A Few Old Tunes", but most interesting of all is track 14 "Numerator Original" which is what sounds like an early version of ROYGBIV. Yes it could be a fake version, but if it is, my hats off to them, because it really does sound like BOC, and what they would have sounded like in their earlier years, before they had become more accomplished.

 

3: the rest of the tracks really do sound like it could also be them, especially with the sketchiness of the short fragment or insert tracks. I think if anyone was trying to fake it, they would have tried harder if that makes any sense?

 

4: I have been listening to BOC relentlessly since before MHTRTC was released, and I have had many fakes sent to me by people saying they have found something I don't have, and in most cases could simply tell by listening to them that something was amiss, but this one just instinctively feels more legit.

 

Somebody put a comment underneath it saying it is fake, but I am not so sure for the above reasons (I know I could well be wrong though), and to dismiss it because parts of it crop up on “A Few Old Tunes” is a bit naïve considering they ARE old tunes! Anyway it is discussed here…

I expect on hearing it many of you would probably think gullible twat, and maybe its one that has done the rounds already and I just missed the boat (haven’t checked this site for ages!).

 

Anyway, if anybody is interested or knows more info on Closes then I would be interested to hear their views.

There's a download link at http://nodatta.blogspot.com/2007/06/boards...oses-vol-1.html but I'm not at home right now so I can't check which fake it is. It might be something nice.

"Focus on the spiral" is actually a track named "kidsfortoday" by davefrom2001, a BoC fan and excellent musician.

 

I've never heard that version of ROYGBIV before though, so that was neat.

This is just a mixture of different BoC tracks from different albums (mostly from A Few Old Tunes).

 

No known copies of Closes Vol 1 exist.

fake....a bunch of old tunes tracks and yeah some fan made tracks...

a really bad fake aswell (even tho 90% is from old tunes), could have made one single track time correct :P.

i was tempted to think fake, but then joyrex said it's fake...so now i'm almost sure it's real

haha, whoops, I just realised I already had a copy of this that I'd found on SLSK at least a month ago ... had given it a brief listen and dismissed it.

Has anyone ever thought about contacting the users who have submitted Boards of Canada's earlier discography on Discogs?

Yeah. A few days ago i caught a few tunes flying around. they include: visul drone 12 from catalogue 3, closes vol. 1 songs, and play by numbers songs. + some old tunes i've never heard before. + most of them sound BoCish. acid memories "duffy". I might post links cuz they sound good. i'd say a good litter of 20 new songs to my ear.
