which VSTs/VSTis do you use most?

Guest tht! tne

a member here was nice enough to show me to a long page full of plug-ins

i was a little overwhelmed; maybe someone will tell me a few to start out with, just for me as a beginner to learn how to use VSTs/VSTis

also i am a bit confused about the difference between VSTs and VSTis (i read a wikipedia article on VST but i'm kinda lost)

i got dBlue Glitch but now i don't know where to put it

i'm renning renoise v1.80 demo and i don't think it allows me to configure where it reads its VSTs from

is that true about having to buy it to use VSTs with it?

because i have it on another computer and that one lists two VSTs that i assume came with the 1.80 update... i don't know

vst is simply an abbreviation for Virtual Studio Technology

VSTi indicates a Virtual Studio Technology Instrument specifically, such as a soft synthesiser

i barely use VST plug ins these days

but i would recommend learning the basics of synthesis with something that uses an interface that mimics the look of an actual synth

like a Native Instruments Pro-53 for instance

in renoise, go to edit/preferences, at the bottom is vst configuration. set your vst directory (if you don`t have one, create folder c:\vst or whatever you like and copy your vst plugins to it) and thats it.

all of those are freeware :sorcerer:

synth1 is the most complete one i listed

iblit i like for making quick simple bendy synths

augur can do some fairly complex sounds because you can cycle through 4 waves

really hard for me to revisit a patch on it though, i never know how to adjust tweak them without guesswork

Funny I had a play with Synth 1 but didn't find it that great. Sounds very thin and fm like but a lot of folks rate it.

I'd totally recommend Juno X2 for bass phatness. Not the most versatile of synths but the oscillicators are seriously beefy with a good dose of bottom end.

Also I'd recommend Tal-u-no 60 for proper 80s funkage.

Been working on one of my own recently, for personal use. Its a pretty fun process, i think . I dont know how far i will go with it, but we will see.

through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

these days all I really use are:

-energyXT(as a my main sequencer as well)

-xhip http://xhip.cjb.net/ for most subtractive synthesis and mono sounds

- SURGE http://vemberaudio.se/surge.php for wavetable and other complicated patches, physical modelling.

- drumular http://www.redshiftaudio.com/html/drumular.html

- SQ8L http://itec.uka.de/~buchty/sq80/sq8l/readme.txt

- Reaktor 5

- handful of effects.

operator, impulse, simpler

reaktor, guru, albino, basstation, vstation

wizzoo reverb, freeverb

agree, great plug-in

Yeah, that's been a great help for me recently. I used it a fair deal on my new EP, along with the Voxengo range of mastering etc. VSTs

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

pro52/53

reaktor

battery

drumatic

zapkit multi out

foxglove

b4

arturia moog

intakt/kontakt

halion

ableton as a rewire

cameleon

texturizer

taurus.. fucking magic fat basses.

many more

and a hefty couple of folders of effects including the waves platinum bundle.

Battery 2. It's just a sampler but it works like a charm!

no it's not it's a sample playing drum machine

it has a sequencer? I thought it was just a drum sampler.

no sequencer

no sampling capabilities - hence it's a sample player

combinator in reason (not technically a vst)

got the demo of the new juno vst in music tech mag. been rinsing the shit out of that but it completely rapes my resources so i can only run one instance and abosultely nothing else when i want to use it.
