hello everyone,

here is a new one by me,

the plum rains [6:06]

it's essentially more ambient music. strings, looped guitar, & traditional okinawan vocals. fans of the film 'all about lily chou-chou' should be able to recognize the vocals i sampled :shade:

i payed a little more attention to mastering this time, so hopefully this tune won't sound as muddled as some of the others i posted. i'm afraid i recorded at a low volume though, so it might work best with headphones.

any comments/feedback would be appreciated. thanks for listening

Haha i always wondered if you'd seen lily chou chou cause of your name. It's fun seeing Philia post! If only we had a blue_cat.

The vocals were very tastefully used, i totally couldnt recognize them

nice ambience on this one, but it didnt go as deep as i'd liked. I wanted the song to mature melodically a little bit more. Thats my only complaint

You make me want to make more ambient music!!! I keep trying but i always fuck it up. I'm gonna go give it another shot though

thanks. getting the vocals just right was the most difficult part.

also i am not very good at all at writing melodies. but i will keep it in mind for next time.

have you seen shunji iwai's other films? they are also great, he is one of my fave contemporary filmmakers. :flower:

I really like the main pad sound. Guitar blends in really nicely, ditto with the crackly textured bits... and the voice. It has a hypnotic effect that reminds me of SAW II, but without sounding like something off SAW II. I think the volume level is actually pretty good for this style.

Hehe, here I thought it was going to be 6:06, but it's closer to 12 minutes in length. I got about half way through and then began skipping ahead. At that length, I agree that it could do with some "melodic maturing". If it were five minutes, wouldn't really need it.

Very nice blend of sounds.

it really is 6:06 though!

for some reason it shows up as 11 minutes something if you play it using window media player i think. this happens to all the tracks i render, not sure why. like if you play it without skipping on wmp, it'll stop at the right time (6:06) but if yo uuse the trackbar to skip, it will just keep on going. anyone know whats up with this?

thanks for listening though. glad to know that the volume is fine.

It's cos of whatever encoder you're using isn't correctly entering the time duration in the header of the mp3. Use something like winLAME ( http://winlame.sourceforge.net/ ) to encode the file and you should be sorted.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
