simple/basic rackmount sampler?

I was looking before at like an AKAI S3000, which seems pretty good for like $300

but it still has way more features than i need.

I just want something really simple that is rack mounted and has like 4 outputs...

can anyone recommend something?

Roland S-760's dope. It's only one rack space and sounds pretty good. There's one on ebay with all of the options for $125. Kinda hard to program, but that's what the mouse is for.

all the rackmount ones i know of have bells and whistles. a dr. sample or something like that sounds like what you want but it's not rackmount.

apparently someone already bought that one, but there are a few others up that look good.

looks like it's got what I need, won't take up too much space, and is pretty cheap. it can take the place of my recently ditched R-8M rack

I'll have to look into this S- series some more. but this next auction is at only like $66 right now i might just grab it.

The learning curve on the S760 is quite steep, and the disk format is kind of strange, but it's a pretty sweet sampler overall. Good luck with it.

i don't think any of my computers actually have a floppy drive, i'll have to dig one up

hopefully the menu system is a little similar to the R-8M i had, i think they were made around the same time

I don't have a floppy drive, either, but love finds a way. Also, if you can get your hands on Chickensys Translator, it makes getting files back and forth between your computer and the sampler much, much easier (if that's your sort of thing). Just get a Zip drive. I actually found that it's best to use Akai formatted disks with the computer, which the S760 can then import from. Or you could just sample and edit on the sampler. Novel idea, I know.
