Guest Memorex Meridian
Hi, bought a Tr-707 off ebay the other day, wicked condition, plugged an adaptor into the back and everything comes on apart from the LCD screen, which is absurdly faint and can only be visible in a certain light while squinting at it... The other pattern lights come on, and it responds to me pressing the contols. can get sound out of it perfectly, it's just the faint-as-fuck screen... Any chance I could have fucked the thing with too high a voltage beforehand, or is it likely to be a different issue? Do I need a proper roland adaptor or what? Have tried a few different adaptors now and the same thing happens each time.. I dunno if it's perhaps the adaptor tip not fitting snugly enough with the power socket on the 707 or what.. please help as I want a piece of the acidtraxvirgolarryheardarmandorailwayravernugroovedetroitrhe jiburrell sound... Know this isn't a particularly interesting first post, but I need help.. Guest analogue wings
An adaptor putting out too little voltage or amperage COULD cause the symptoms you describe. Chris Moss Acid
change the AA battery in the memory compartment.. mine used to be really faint.. but i changed the memory back up and used a Roland adapter and it works flawlessly i use a Roland PSB-UNIVERSAL. It's a DC 9V, 2 Amp AC Adaptor. The PSA 12T is a 200 mA (milliamp) supply. That's .2 Amp. Guest Memorex Meridian
Thanks very much for the advice... I replaced the batteries with a pair of fresh duracells, and the screen is much clearer, but flashes intermittantly.. I obviously need this PSB adaptor that Chris Morris Acid uses.... Can't find a Roland PSB Universal adaptor anywhere on the net though... anyone know of a site? http://www.instrumentpro.com/P-ROLPSB1U.html ? http://www.instrumentpro.com/P-ROLPSA120.html Either of these? I know fuck all about voltage and currents I'm afraid... Chris Moss Acid
You'll Need 12V 200 mA negative center For a TR-707 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/25718-tr707-and-vintage-roland-drum-machine-users-please-helpski/#findComment-548351 Share on other sites

Roland put OMG USE ROLAND ADAPTER ONLY OR YOU WILL BRAEK THAT SHIT on ALL their products ever. yeah thats true.. i use universal adapters brought from maplins. but i had a roland adapter which came with a boss digital 8 track. i find the universal maplins adapters work flawlessly for the 303/606/101 but it always turns off if it gets nudged using it on the 707.. thats where the roland adapter comes in as the end of the adapter plug is alot smaller as is the pin on the 707, and it dosnt fall out at all or turn off if it gets knocked. Guest Memorex Meridian
Sigh, took it to maplin today, the screen still fucking flashes.. Sometimes it doesn't at all, if the lcd screen doesn't have to display too many things at once, but once things look busy on the screen the picture deteriorates... Should I send my 707 off to try and have it repaired, as I'm not sure if an adapter can resolve the issue...? Thing sequences fine, everything works properly apart from the screen... Would an official roland adapter sort things out?
