could backup all my music & samples hopefully. whenever i format C: and install windows the viruses strike. forced to run linux for troubleshooting... i wanted to release an ep in october!

dude, thats nothing. about a week ago my external hard drive completely failed, not even data recovery-able. not much was backed up so i lost most of my video work i had done in 4 years, about a months worth of creative output (luckily it wasnt a very productive month) and all my refills/samples/vsts.

in these situations remember to eat lots of fresh fruit and think about happy things, and breath deeply. back up the drivers and re-partition your drive, ensure it isnt connected to the internet when you install windows and then install anti-virus first thing. reboot in safe mode and scan. then make yourself a nice cup of tea.

1) Stop using IE.

2) Get the Zone Alarm Suite with the antivirus. Problem solved

3) Don't go to dodgy websites (except this one) :laughing:

Similar thing happened to me recently. Lost all my music and digital art work for the past year or so. Ironically, it happened a few days after i had ordered an external hard-drive (to back stuff up) and a few days before it actually arrived at my door.

Ya I agree that sometimes the virus shit makes having a PC not worth it. I have both, but never get online with the PC. Just not worth it.

There are close to 0 mac viruses, but you still have the risk of losing data. I think data loss on a mac is actually pretty common. I have my shit backed up on a drive and DVDs. When I get the money, I will be raiding all my shit together.

Cant wait until spinning drives are a thing of the past. Once everything is flash memory this type of shit will exponentially decrease.

To be fair though as long as you're sensible you're not going to get any virus'.

In the past 10 or so years I've had just 2, both of which were because I was a dick and blindly downloaded keygens from uber-dodgy looking sites. One was simple to remove, the second was a bit more of a whore.

But yeah if you have a decent firewall, up to date virus protection and dump IE and switch to Firefox w/adblock & noscript (and don't be a dick and blidnly download stuff like I did) then you're not going to be getting hassles

You are exactly right. The only virus I've gotten in 10+ years was actually a keygen I got on a CD that someone gave me! Prick! I'm assuming he didn't know it was there... My friend just got a laptop the other day, and within 2 fucking days, the asshole had a system crippling virus. The stupid motherfucker was trying to get porn! I mean really, is it THAT hard to get free porn that you have to resort to going to fucked up sites? NO!

I know that post sounds angry, but I am pissed, because this dude got this stolen laptop for $200 from my OTHER friend (not STOLEN from my other friend), when I actually could have made use of the thing, because 3 weeks ago I spilled coffee on my laptop, thereby fucking up my everything. I want to cry.

After I saw this thread I checked if my backup of 25GB full of my stuff was up to date, but some FUCKTARD had deleted it.. obviously someone in my house but I have had words. So I backed it up again and made sure no-one trys to "clear up space" on the 400GB external anymore. Thank god for WATMM
