  Quote
"Breaking Into Smile" is lifted from Carnivalesque and portrays just why Rubens are such an appealing proposition. Backed up with remixes from scene heavyweights The Black Dog, Dextro and Kirk Degiorgio, this EP is destined to gather many new fans.

If it's up-tempo, innovative beat patterns you want, then look no further. This Scottish duo spent over a year in the studio honing their sound into the 'perfect' electronic album. Featuring a festive, hazy melody, "Breaking Into Smile" is notable for its production nuances and multi-textured synths.

Herb has gone all out, enlisting the services of some revered remixers. The Black Dog deconstruct "Breaking Into Smile" into an industrial gothic stomp, choc-full of muffled, staccato beats and anthemic synths. The sort of music you'd expect to hear in a dark and dingy warehouse party.

Fellow Scotsman, Dextro, delivers and Middle Eastern flavour with his take adding distant vocal swirls and more instrumentation, yet he retains the timeless melody of the original.

Kirk Degiorgio ends this release providing acidic squelches, analog synths and a beat straight out the Detroit Techno manual, to wrap up what is essentially a release bearing all the hallmarks of cosmopolitan electronica.

a wonderfully ornate and melodic piece with elegant electronic swathes

a fresh and stylish take on classic electronic music which shows a great element of maturity

  Quote
The leading melody, crafted from an acoustic guitar, continuously swirls around the listener as the backdrop develops into a dense dreamy series of soundscapes

  Quote
kaleidoscopic electronic music as [Dextro's Ewan Mackenzie] distorts the melody into a multitude of parallel elements which he then sets them to erupt one after the other into luminous soundscapes

I'll have to check this out.
