Guest Mr. Magoo
hi, i recently found an Mbox from someone, and i have no idea how to use it. the problem is i'm not sure how to use it, since i'm no expert, i'am asking anyone here who knows anything about the Mbox hardware, what can i use it for, is it used for MIDI, or what, how can i incorporate it into music making, and i don't want to be able to sing, for instance will this thing allow me to use Traktor DJ Studio propaly, meaning when i use DJ studio, i only have my headphones plugged into the computer, will this device allow me seperate different channels into different speakers etc. how can i use this for FL5, or live performance. also the main reason i post this is because i want to know if this thing allows me to jam online, using the Mbox, is it the same as using ASIO etc, on the program ninjam, the link is here ninjam thanks for your help :on2long: Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/2625-mbox-help/ Share on other sites
Guest androne
Quote All you need to know about ASIO As computers become more commonplace in recording and home project studios, so does the demand for faster, more responsive sound cards to work in these systems. A sound card is expected to enhance the recording process by handling many jobs at once. At any given time it's expected to be recording audio from a single or multiple inputs, playing back audio from multiple sources such as audio from the hard drive or virtual synthesizer instruments, and doing it all in a synchronous manner keeping in step with MIDI or other time dependent devices. These requirements are steep and often leave an ill-equipped system at a grinding halt. In order to create a more direct path to the hardware, and also make the hardware more responsive to the software's needs, Steinberg of Germany (developer of the popular Cubase digital sequencer and Nuendo digital audio workstation) developed Audio Stream In/Out (ASIO) technology. ASIO has made its mark as the driver standard for delivering low-latency transfer of digital audio. This means that hardware supporting an ASIO driver is able to deliver low-latency recording and monitoring to hard disk. I plugged in a midi controller, hit some keys and they were slow to respond, switched the program over to use asio drivers and voila, it worked perfectly. that page has some good information, if you want more and no one responds then do a google search. Quote http://www.fullcompass.com/Products/pages/SKU--50183/http://www.savedbytechnology.com/main/mbox.htm Mbox is a 2-channel USB audio peripheral specifically engineered to offer precision sound in a very small, very portable package. It features two Focusrite mic preamps, 24-bit stereo S/PDIF digital I/O, 2- 1/4" TRS inserts, & a headphone output. It boasts zero latency monitoring, and is 100% USB powered. The complete signal chain is 24-bit. It comes packaged with Pro Tools 5.2 LE software supporting DigiStudio Internet Collaboration. Note: Laptop not included. I would guess that your mbox didnt come with protools, but I would think you wouldn't need protools to use it, you probably need drivers for it though. I dont know if you have drivers or protools so i would say just plug it in and plug stuff into it and see what happens, make sure to connect it to your computer though :wink2: If you dont have drivers you can probably find them online, from there you should be able to record with it, plug stuff in, hit record in whatever program youve got and then do stuff and turn knobs... but be careful when using the mic preamps because they are very sensitive as the signal from a microphone is very small, so it boosts the signal quite a bit, if you send in a strong signal through the mic preamp and turn it up a bit you might fry it. or maybe not, im used to using older equipment. Guest snibbajibs
we have those in uni and they are sooooo SHIT I dunno, it could be just my bad luck, but they are shit you can't have more than one sound device running at the same time, ok there are some exceptions but you can't even record what you are doing in realtime using something like wavelab, cause the cock is using all its nuts for the sound that you are trying to record... ....AND seems to reset the drivers in Cubase and Reaktor all the time. I dunno, seemed a bit bunk to me considering my on board soundcard of which has no name or model or doesnt even exsist, seems to work better. this is the digi design driver, not sure if the box is any better with another card, I dunno, Edited January 12, 2006 by snibbajibs Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/2625-mbox-help/#findComment-52649 Share on other sites

Guest noradrenalin
does your computer have a sound card already? thats all you really need to record. if its a pc just plug your mixer (or just the triton itself) into the pink hole in the back. then go to the start menu, accessories, entertainment, and then volume controll. then hit properties in the options menu and select record. from there you should be able to select mic and you're all set.
