faders and knobs are obviously useful, but why are people so excited by the buttons?

My laptop has buttons ... and I can tell them apart because they're all labelled..... : )

am I missing something?

... The pads are buttons, not velocity-sensitive pads, so this will be more useful for clip triggering (sound, visuals) than drum programming.

Because some people don't use laptops? Or maybe they want the buttons in the same area as the sliders and knobs? Or maybe they don't like the feel of laptop keys?
