Definitely like all those buttons; they'd be good for triggering samples etc and the cross fader is handy too but yeah £400 is just stupid. If this were priced at £150-200 it'd have a better chance. £400 is just ridiculous.

Could use an x/y pad too.

faders and knobs are obviously useful, but why are people so excited by the buttons?

My laptop has buttons ... and I can tell them apart because they're all labelled..... : )

I assumed they were velocity sensitive pads?

Because some people don't use laptops? Or maybe they want the buttons in the same area as the sliders and knobs? Or maybe they don't like the feel of laptop keys?
