Boards of Canada Japanese

Macquarie Ridge is my favorite track off of "The Campfire Headphase" and after looking at the top friends on Boards of Canada's myspace page, I think it very well could be they reserve the best tracks for Japan. :)

Actually, due to the high domestic prices of CDs in Japan, labels typically like to put on bonus content as an incentive to "buy locally" since it's usually cheaper to import the original release from it's country of origin.

Case in point - a lot of Beat Records (WARP's distributor in Japan) releases have extras:

Autechre - Confield (came with bonus live track)

Geogaddi - From One Source All Things Depend (extra track added on)

I'm sure there are a few others I can't think of at the moment...

common practice for japanese releases, has been for years. it's something to do with trying to stop japanese people importing cheaper editions from other countries, i think, in order to support the control on the prices of japanese stuff and their market in general.

The Geogaddi bonus track was tops as well.

Shitloads of the Warp releases licenced to Beat have bonus tracks. The bastards have cost me a fortune over the past few years. They're worth buying just for the obi strips though.

people jump to conclusions at a hilarious pace sometimes. of course I understand the reason for the extra bonus tracks on Japanese releases. My entire reason for this post was to point out the fact that they reserved (IMHO) the best track for the Japanese release.

Actually, I agree with you, I said the same thing about TCH a while back. 'Maquarie Ridge' deserved a wider release (although it seems that it is one of the most widely heard 'Bonus Tracks For Japan', IMO, maybe because of MySpace). I'm always interested in this topic though, as I have an overly-geeky interest in Japanese CDs.
