this album finally has a release date. "It’s a double CD featuring vocals from Jack, Oakland’s own Azeem, Mr. C and Daddy Sandy and a guest appearance from Z-Trip. We’re still working on how it’ll come out – more news on that soon. But you can sample a track from the new album exclusively on the new web site."

sounds like a possible guest rapper album, not sure if i like the idea of that

What's up with this "Europe Only" shit mentioned on the front page of the µ site?

Also, yeah, I'm w/GBIII about the rapper thing. But on the other hand, I guess I could tolerate the rapping on 99%

the rapping on 99% was jack and it wasnt really rapping in the traditional sense, it was more like rap-talking which sounds dated now but for back then the whole album sounded fresh. My fear is that MBM is now jumping on this new electronic producers bang wagon (Pinch, machine drum, enduser, etc) of doing an album as a bed for guest indie (but bad) rappers . Im just sick of this type of execution, its never once worked for me\. I thinkone of the only albums with guest vocalists on every song that SEMI worked for me was DJ Rupture's "special gun powder" http://www.discogs.com/release/340062

Pinch doesn't fall into that catagory, he's using singers much more than rappers(hell, I'd even call them "toasters" before rappers, but yeah, that's a whole other story), and imo, using them very well...

Other than that, yeah, I think you're probably right.

yes letme correct myself i just meant electronic artist using vocals in general of other people. the majority of which seem to be either rap or toasting/dancehall vocalists. the one's pinch chose areok, its the concept though rather thanthe vocalists themselves which bother me. A lot of these guest vocalist albums to me tend to sound more like a marketing compilation. An advertisement for the artist to show that his music can have mainstream appeal if he/she tried or had the opportunity. but as my main contention with them, is These albums are impossible to flow like a normal album.they sound more like a compilation or a dj mix than an album byu the particular artist in question. Now something like Spaceape /kode 9 and Alan vega with pan sonic are a different story, both of these albums have a consistent flow and don't sound like a piece meal production.I will reserve judgment though until i hear this mbm album, i love MBM but i honestly havent been a huge fan of anything released under the MBM moniker since Subliminal Sandwich. Loudness clarifies by jackdangers however is one of the best electronic albums i think of this decade.

What did you think about MBM's "In Dub...", Jack's work w/MC Collage(admittedly, not a very good MC) is pretty fluid on that record.

As regards using the different vocalists making the record sound like a comp.: I never really thought of it like that but I definitely see what you're saying. I guess I wouldn't mind it, if the MC's were better. One thing I think *would* help is if these kinds of calling card records showing these producers can work with vocalists, actually worked as calling cards. Frankly, I think it would be *awesome* to see a producer like Kode9 work with someone like Cam'ron, or hell, maybe even someone like Common. I'd like to see dubstep and other electronic producers who try to incorporate hip hop stop taking such an effete approach, and use some MC's that aren't underground backpackers. Hell, I bet there are a ton of MC's like Andre 3000 just waiting to be found, but none of the electronic music/Dubstep dudes will fuck with them 'cause they don't sound like either Slug or Daddy Freddy...

/rant

i guess in dub should be counted as a new album since the material is heavily reworked and nearly unrecognizable, so let me take back what i said. In dub was probably the last great MBM work

sounds like typical MBM so far

"The Planet µ version is a 10 track 'cherry-picked' version of the 26 track US version but available on LP in addition to the CD. There is also one exclusive track which will not be on the Metropolis version. "Lonely Soldier," the first single from the album will be out on February 18th through Planet µ as both a vinyl 12" and digital download."

OK. The Mu version of the album will be all the very best tunes from the 26 tracks. I really need to emphasize how fukkin god damn good this album is. utterly epic. There is preview's on the mega mix Planet Mu mix i made for the next 6 months or so, but ir seems to have been deleted. This album will be utterly epic.
