Is this the best 303 emulator out there?

Why so harsh, I just asked a simple question? I want to buy a 303 emulator and I just want to know which 303 emualtor is the best.

Yeah, I think it's a great program. I have ABL2 and it's pretty fun to use. I've read that it's the one with the most convincing sound too.

Yeah, I'm thinking that ABL2 is the one to get. Phoscyon doesn't sound completly "right" imo.

Phoscyon sounds better than ABL if you run it through some outboard effects IMO - a little compression, some slight reverb etc... ABL sounds better "dry" though, so it's horses for courses really.....

Phoscyon for the win but it sucks cuz you have to program it and you can't use it as a synth that plays notes =/

Phoscyon, huh. I thought that ABL2 had a thicker sound, had that mercurial sound that a 303 has, the Phoscyon kinda sounded like another synth, acid, but not 303 completly. I didn't know you have to program the Phoscyon good to know, that kinda blows.

it doesn't blow - you just program it like a real 303 which is easy, or send some MIDI patterns to it from something else...

or just hit the randomize pattern button....

nope. this is obviously a drawback. i'm all about hardware myself these days, but if you need a good 303 sound for cheap without buying an actual 303/x0xb0x/ML303 etc etc, then you gotta use software

i have both. ive used each about once or twice. they both sound kind of 303 acidyish, but in the end ABL wins somehow IMhumbleO

ive got a graphics tablet so im gonna bust out the crayons and draw an abl 303 relative to thes screen and sitcky back plastic it down.

im gonna sample someone else's (virtual) 303.

£90 is rip off man

Tap Programming. you know? if you press pattern clear as the 303 is running it kicks in the metronome and you press write/next

in a perticular fashion which suites your bassline.. for example.

tape the rythem => * * * ** * * ** * *

the notes => a d d ff c a dd a g

the longer you press the button down longer the note tie the quicker you tap the button the quicker the note.. which for some reason always sounds liek the note is even shorter then if you note programe the bassline

also the 303's metronomecan be used as a crafty acidhouse bassline, as all the filters and cut off work with it. you can yjack the fuck out of it.. DUH duh duh duh Duh duh duh duh and your there hair blowing in the wind rocking the fuck out of the tune knob coz its dark and you ment to sweep the cut off freq knob instead!

i use the abl and phoscyon

i think they are both great

no real opinion on which is best

they both get the goods going

phoscyon does have that daft arpeggiator that sounds hilarious when switched to random though

I have a x0xb0x, and ABL2. When the x0xb0x is acting up or I don't have it around ABL2 does it just right. It doesn't have the edge on the saw that a real analog synth has, but it is the best 303 emulator I have found. I also have a soft spot for Rebirth with a serious amount of mastering. You would do well with ABL2, but at least check out Phosycon and see if that fits your style more.
