beautiful melody. the beat needs more hats or something. the beat is a little sparse. this track kinda sounds like i'm listening on youtube or realplayer and its buffering then it starts again. unusual little gaps. but when its going it good. not the sort of thing i listen to either.

what did you use for that bassline?

I pitch shifted two random bass samples that came with the program fruityloops (which I haven't used for six years). I think one of them was called "lfo"...? I wanted something dirty, covered with lint 'n' shit. That's what I was going for there.

Absolutely brilliant, you're my favourite producer on WATMM!

Hurray!

nice fat-snare strut at start, but too bad about the rest ;(

waaaay too gooey '97 plaid for my taste

lol! Well no one said weight problems were pretty. For the record, I own one CD by Plaid, Spokes, and I don't like it. But I do think they have a cool approach to melodies that modulate all over the place. In fact, I'd probably enjoy a lot of their older stuff.

I'm liking how mixed the opinions are on this one.

I find it weird that a lot you don't like the rhythm? I rarely listen to drill'n'bass/electronic music anymore but I love this track (as I do with all the Zephyr tracks). The melodies are really cosy and warming in a childish-melancholy sort of way.

You're one of my favorite producers on here as well.

Production wise this is top notch.

I liked the beats at the start.

I didn't really like the melody (too saccharin for me) and the flow of the rhythm.

In comparison to most of your other tracks the beats and melody sound a bit disjointed.

I appreciate the honest feedback guys. It's always interesting to hear what things weird certain people out, and what bits make a track for others. It's always so different from person to person, and I obviously hear my tracks in an entirely different light, being the creator.

Cheers man!

The beat's kind of a bombastic glitched out hip-hop type thing, and since I don't listen to much music like that it may get interpreted through me in a way that sounds strange to other people. :undecided: I was feeling kind of cheeky when I made it.

it's good, programming something that sounds that loose and organic is definitely not easy

criticism for criticism's sake:

that little hat on the left side that comes in all regular intervalled i think would really glue that beat together nicely if the hat weren't so thin. would be nice if a thicker hat came in underneath and in sync with it occasionally. that hat on the right helps a bit, but again i don't know... looks awkward already got onto the hats anyway (i'm in ear buds at work so this could be totally off the mark)

good show

nice one... very interesting track. kind of like a strangely emotional science fiction movie...

i wouldn't mind a bit more action in the latter half... my own personal preference for this track of course... but just let those beats launch into it a bit...

lots of cool elements to this one...

The plaidish melodies, well mmm comes across a bit serious tho cheesy aswell, rather have it max in one or the other, and then before you know it the track ends :( If this'd be a filler on your album, I'd prolly still buy it :)

I guess at that point in the track I wanted some sweetness to counterbalance the rolls of fat, and that was the first part that sprang to mind. (It's all about the bassline in that section anyway.) I'm not sure if I'd put this one on an album, but I'll probably relisten to it when the time comes.

You might be right. I will remember the hat comments if I go back to this one. Thanks!

I thought about having a beat-breakdown section and extending the track, but decided I liked the conciseness of having it end around 3:30. Yeah, going full out with the beat fuckery later on could be totally sweet... hmmmm. If I do end up wanting to use this on an album, I think I will embellish a bit more on it.

Thanks for all the great feedback. You guys are the best.

  • 2 weeks later...

top shelf production as usual sir, though on the whole it didn't really "do anything" for me. i think it suffers from meandering a little too much. i hope one day i will hear a zephyr nova track that constantly fills me up with joy as much as 23:23....

this one sounds like it was much more fun to make than to playback (which is a feeling i know only too well).

You've probably got the best production of all of WATMM, that's something that always stick out with your tracks. They're all over the stereo spectrum, and everything's BIG. This stands out particularly within this track and it's fatty context.

I'm really digging the harmony you set up later in the track, it should be in earlier, it's the part that grabs interest. Great track. The major chords you're throwing around makes for a pretty BOCy-vibe, I'm not sure if you'll take that as a positive or negative thing, but it sounds nice.

..Though it could use more fart sounds.

Hmmm, interesting. I lost my fondness for that one, whereas I really like the rest of the tracks I did while in Ireland. It's catchy though. That was last aug/oct of 2006, yet I think most of those tracks top a lot of what I'm doing now. I recently did a compilation CD of stuff I've did in the last year and I did think the stuff I was creating while in Ireland was stronger on the whole.

A+++ bro. Really awesome. But maybe add a bit more at the end?

Thanks a lot Rook! I may add more to the end if I end up using this on the next album, which I think is starting to fall into place.

Wow, that's quite the compliment! There are a few very strong producers I've heard on here.

I've always liked elements of BoC, though I think there are a lot of things they could do to bring their music to the next level... they seem to have found their comfort zone, and they're staying there. But I don't think the BoC vibe's a bad thing by any means! If anything they're good at creating vibe.

Thanks for mentioning it! I think more electronic music song titles need to make use of puns.
