Guest plazzTT
What was the bitrate of the leak of Old Tunes Vol. 2? I have the 320K of OTV1, but every copy of OTV2 I find is 160K. Is this the best available? Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/29325-old-tunes-vol-2-bitrate/ Share on other sites

Yes - I'm sure it's debatable that a higher quality rip would even sound any better at 320K, we're talking about Old Tunes here... Guest plazzTT
The 160K copies I've downloaded (from Soulseek, eMule, and from a website) have all been the same. But, there's a "scene" release from 2003 called: Boards_Of_Canada_-_A_Few_Old_Tunes_Vol. 2-2003-RFL which is fake, but the tracks from Old Tunes Vol. 2 on it are much better sounding than on the OTV2 copies I found. This has probably been mentioned here before, but I can't find any mention of it. Here's a sample of Mukhinabaht from the fake "A Few Old Tunes Vol. 2" http://www.zshare.net/audio/58583936f44f08/ Maybe some one could compare it with their copy from OTV2. This version sounds much better than anything else I could find, and it seems that it's not simply lifted from the original 160K Soulseek leaks. Guest plazzTT
This is the tracklist: Quote Boards_Of_Canada_-_A_Few_Old_Tunes_Vol._2-2003-RFL 01 Solarium 00:21 02 Sequoia 04:44 03 Boqurant 01:42 04 5-9-78 04:09 05 Statue of Liberty 01:50 06 Finity 04:56 07 Forest Moon 06:33 08 Devil 00:14 09 Mansel 05:33 10 She is P 01:42 11 Davie Addison 01:12 12 On A Rolling Sea 01:33 13 Iced Cooly Beatnik 00:37 14 To the Wind 02:30 15 Magic Teens 02:59 16 Apparatus 00:35 17 Music for Pylons 01:12 18 Alpha Rainbow 01:12 19 Northern Plastics 01:55 20 Dave (I'm A Real Traditionalist) 01:48 21 Sir Prancelot Brainfire 02:49 22 Fly in the Pool 00:52 23 Mukinabaht 05:02 24 Kiteracer 2 02:27 25 Buckie High 05:16 26 I Love My New Shears 03:10 27 Sac 01:19 28 Blockbusters 00:40 29 I Will Get it Tattooed 01:34 30 Up the March Bank 03:22 31 Rodox Video 01:09 32 Happy Cycling 01:53 33 House of Adin'adab 01:54 There are 17 OTV2 tracks on this and they seem to be from a different (much better) source than the 160K tape leak. Guest Moebius
Who knows what bitrate the original leaks were, suffice to say they have been transcoded to every bitrate and format from wmv to flac. but back when this stuff first leaked, there was a leak that was marked as a CD compilation of old tunes v1 and 2 (I believe) which had noticeably better quality that the tapes. It did not include a complete copy of either tape. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/29325-old-tunes-vol-2-bitrate/#findComment-620700 Share on other sites
khov
well if you have some old boards of canada tunes ripped from cd with a better sound, upload man, upload! btw i did listen to some of these the other day & i dont think the whole old tunes are worth releasing, obviously many track are not as good as the later records. Dragon
They were recorded of a cassette tape. We're not talking lossless WAVs here, guys. Mine are 160/192, and they were probably lower than that in the first place. Also, your tracklist seems to be quite mashed up. It lists stuff from AFOT and OTV2, in something mockery of an order. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Tunes http://fredd-e.narfum.org/boc/discog/#afewoldtunes Also, this stuff is obviously quite personal to BoC, and you're not actually supposed to have this stuff. My personal favourites are Finity, Happy Cycling, We've Started Up, and Iraq Says  Oh, and here's the original DirtDevil commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hIdVAFs3dl Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Dragon's signature Hide all signatures faith <3 Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/29325-old-tunes-vol-2-bitrate/#findComment-621511 Share on other sites
Guest Demerzel
I don't get it. If this is off a cassette how come the frequency response is much higher than 12KHz, as is evident simply from, eh, having ears.
