kaoss pad

Recommended Posts

I was at a friend's house and they had a Korg Kaoss Pad KP3

I guess these are old hat to a lot of people, but I hadn't used one before and it was a lot of fun.

So before I cave in and buy one, I'm wondering:

- is there a software equivalent (like an emulation of a kaoss pad)

- are there any decent but similar alternative gadgets?

the mini kp sucks though. it's really not comparable. you could get a kp2, they're selling cheap and it's basically the same thing with fewer effects.

true, but only the kp3 has the onboard sampler, and that was one of my favorite bits.

Also the kp2 and mini do not have the LEDs under the touchpad

The Kaoss pad has been around since 1999 so I was wondering if anyone else has made a similar or related device?

just get a basic midi keyboard/input device with an xy pad.

then assign vsts to your heart's content.

or get a kaoss pad. they go pretty cheap on ebay.

I believe the kp2 does have a sampler as well, but it can only hold two active samples instead of four.

suppatrigga free vst does a lot of shit that the kp3 does has assignable x y pad type shit but you'll need a midi interface ... KP3 are incredibly fun and unique as far as I know, If you get one, get the kp3 the sampler is really nice and easy to get breaks from your computer... I love mine and use it quite often.

you can turn a nintendo DS, into the interface for it pretty easily, with WIfi-midi convertor and KAOS software.

thanks for the tip - I have a DS so I looked up Kaos DS .... pretty cool ... turns the DS into a wireless XY midi controller

There's a DS add-on my wife just ordered that has an accelerometer + gyroscope in it, and there's an open API for it so I might be writing an X/Y tilt midi app for it sometime soon.
