the weirdest thing just happened...

like most people, my dreams tend to borrow from stuff i've seen, recently... and recently, i've been using cubase a lot. i used it this morning. i was editing a block of audio, taking segments and overdubbing them on another two tracks. i recall i playing it back as i tried edits out, pitch shifting some stuff, and moving audio around. the funny thing is, this was inside my head. i was lying in bed, in some weird hypnagogic state. i wasn't totally asleep, because i remember getting hot and pulling the blanket down. i wasn't totally awake, either. eventually i snapped out of it, was all... what the hell was that, and in that little lapse i'd forgotten what i was working on, aside from the shape of the blocks on my three tracks of audio. i probably should have saved my file. i was not chemically enhanced, just half asleep.

anyone had anything like this happen before?

any way to do it on cue and get practical use out of it?

Something similar happened to me a few months back, except in my case I was mentally recreating each part in James Taylor's "Your Smiling Face" in agonizing detail. I couldn't seem to fully wake up until I had the song totally reconstructed. It was truly a tormenting ordeal.

Most of my tracks are developed right before I go to sleep. I'll start hearing a tune going in my head just like a song you've listened to over and over and had memorized. Sometimes I don't realize whats going and keep trying to pin it down to what song it is that I'm playing in my head before it hits me that its all just my brain churning shit up. I have to hop out of bed and get some kind of rough draft or sketch down before I go to sleep, otherwise the next day it will be entirely forgotten. I lose way too much sleep because of it.

Yup, I remember working on music while asleep. I also remember dreaming up a melody which I told myself in the dream to not forget, but when I woke up. I totally forgot all of it.

All the time, I lucid dream pretty much every morning. I actually was dreaming about creating something in that Java game Powder this morning.

I dreamt up a melody a couple months ago, woke up with it still in my head, and quickly sketched it out in Reason first chance I got. Unfortunately reason just stopped functioning altogether for some unknown reason (LOL unknown REASON LOL) so I can't listen back to it. My dream melodies are cursed.
