what soft synths does everyone use to write their tunes. ive been using a cracked version of albino, and also psyn II, but i was thinking about splashing out on one for real. is reaktor any good? im looking for a synth that has relativley thin textures, in my music i like to layer up many sounds at once, and i find that with huge beefy synths, it just doesnt happen. anyone care to reccomend anything?

Reaktor sounds great and has some awesome synths pre-built when you install it, but you'd be hard pressed to learn how to use it's internal architecture properly, since it's so poorly documented. It is not very conducive to a quick workflow, either. You have to do all of your building ahead of time. It's has none of the simplicity of a purely modular synth like the Nord G2.

Also, in regards to your beefy synth problem. A problem with a lot of synth patches is that they do cover the entire audio spectrum and, as such, are hard to layer without stepping on each other's toes and becoming muddy. I would reccomend a simple DJ EQ of some sort where you can quickly apply some sort of highpass/lowpass filter to your signals. Then again, most synths already have such filters as a standard feature. I hope that helps you with your layering problem.

I've been screwing around with SubDuer a lot lately. It's nice. I've been able to layer up some great sounds and it's particuarly good for pads. The interface takes a bit of working out at first but aside from that i think it's pretty sweet.

hello. i actually thought splashing out real money on a registered bit of kit might improve its functionality but to no avail, im try to run the akoustic piano through cubase now.

i get the error message 'filter not found, please re-register VSTDX.dll' . so off i pop, redownload vstdx.dll , put it in the cubase folder, but its still telling me to reregister it? any clue? what would reregistering a .dll file require, i thought they were just little things that the program used somehow.

ok. ive just tried it with a few other 'directx' synths, and it comes up with the same message so i assume this is a cubase problem? while i have started buying stuff now, cubase is im afraid a cracked one, so i assume its a problem to do with this? im flummoxed.
