Another Dumbass Begineer's question

I use reason 4.0, but this question will probably apply to alot more software sequencers.

To put it simply I don't know how to change individual tempo's, obviously there is a scroller that changes the tempo of all your patterns, but how do you do it with individual patterns? The answer is probably obvious I know.

edit: or slower for that matter.

if it's notes in a sequencer that you want sped up....change the note rate from say....16th notes to 32nd notes. if it's a sample you want played at a faster tempo increase the pitch or time stretch it. Looking for a way to change tempo on individual tracks would make writing a song much more confusing since the master tempo is your only point of reference when placing sequences. Or like what is said above you can automate the tempo and have it speed up or slow down between say...bar 5-6

chill bruv, this is probably the best n00b question i've heard

basically, do the maths (im assuming youre not doing anything too obscure) and then change according to 1/8tsh 1/16ths etc... the different tempos of course are limited by the 1/64ths.

im shit at maths myself but the equation probably is 'global tempo/ intended tempo = the unit of measurement on the sequencer'. so if the tempo is 160bpm and you want a specific pattern to be 150bpm then each 8th will be 1.06th away from each other (but i think that .06 needs to then have a ratio of :8 as its currently 6:10).

fuck knows, but there are also the T demoninations - which are triplets in any given unit. like 1/8T, 1/16T (you should see them). this also changes the rulers whilst you have them selected and is probably the best way to go about it.

either way, the idea of having seperate tempos in the first place just sounds like something conceptual/experimental. if youre planning on going down that route then have a go at reaktor/maxmsp. different tempos are programmed all the time in things like reason - its just that those which cant be simulated with positioning of midi notes would not be controllable and would be too arbitrary and probably sound shit.
