808 synthesis.

What sort of soundwave or whatever is used to make the 808 cowbell sound? Cause, I mean, it's all analogue. So how would I go about making, like, 808 booms or snaps by myself?

from what I've read, the 808 cowbell is variously tuned square waves.

I'm sure you can find more info on google about specifics.

It has been rumored that the SoS article may not be 100% accurate with regards to it. I have come close to the cowbell sound using that technique on my Nord Modular but not authentic enough to fool anyone.
