It's pretty neat that it has a built synth, but it's not enough to make me want to get one.

i don't like this new MPC look :( i'm also pissed they are already releasing a new MPD, the 32 and the 24, which I have, just came out a year ago! I can't quite judge it just yet until I see some demo's on youtube.

Looks tite. Too bad that Akai's build quality has gone to shit and that they'll stop developing the OS before they work all the bugs out. If only the 2500 had a better sampler... I wonder what the sampling rate and bit depth of this new beast are.

I second this. MPC 1000 + JJ OS 1 and 2, and you've got something that is more powerful than a 2500 at least. JJ OS 2 is adding in some nice synth capabilities into the system.

As someone who has used JJ OS avidly for over a year now, I can say you sound like a hatin' fool w/this post, all the answers you crave are on that site...try the free version he gives you(I wish he'd update this one a bit more, as it's not the best example of how awesome JJ is anymore, but it's still a damn good start), and skim the manual he posted on that site(good gauge of features)...

I have yet to get OS2 yet(waiting for the full release in March+I'm broke), but yeah, VERY excited about that(being able to make every track an audio track is tantalizing as hell...)

well i admit that was somewhat intentional, but i still hate sites that are so damn expert friendly. i think the main issue is that i have never owned an MPC, so most of it looks greek to me.

Yes, I haven't done it myself(although I did upgrade the ram to 256, which is wonderful), but it is possible...

my guess is JJ isn't going too all-out w/that site at the request of Akai, keeping it low-key and not too obvious in some tacit agreement or something(although word around the campfire, which keeps getting stronger, seems to point at Akai being at least partially responsible for JJ OS in the first place)

edit: I didn't realize you hadn't used an MPC before. With that said, yeah, the JJ OS is certainly assuming that people interested in using it are at least partially familiar w/the MPC beforehand. Starting with the free version of the JJ OS really shouldn't mess ya up, hell, would probably be a cooler way to start on an MPC :D

that was one of my hang-ups about moving to the mpc, lack of onboard memory.

can you connect to a computer directly and just dump data on to the computer? or can you load samples from a computer?

Yep, an MPC1000 has usb 1.0 on it, so you can throw stuff from a comp. directly onto either memory card or hdd. It's 1.0, though, so not super fast...

i had not vuisited the site in a while and did not know there was a 2

just upgraded. it looks rad so far. this is how software should be done - ~$40, lifetime free upgrades, unmitigated awesome.

Don't know about sample rate but the vid said 24 bit import/export

Edit : Wait at the end of the vid he said "it's still 16 bit". I dunno i don't wanna watch it again.
