hi

if i said I'd make a ghost image of a hard drive, ala - a standard .gho file for a NTFS partition, and the image I'd make it from would be a daw (that is, digital audio work station) = in other words it would be me cutting down xp pro down to only audio/internet use and then installing all the good sequencers out there, then putting a neat package of free (or erm, not by your choice) audio plugins which are categorized nice and neatly and then torrrenting it so that if you have say a blank 10gb ntfs partition you can simply *clone* it on and then just have the same audio setup.

Of course you'll need to install your midi keyboard and/or sound card drivers and anything else you want but I'd like to make a really nice setup.

What do you guys say?

a ghost image is hardware dependent...

you would need the same hardware (motherboard, gfx, soundcard etc otherwise it counts as a new install and windows would need reactivated)

or you would have to install all the drivers for your specifc hardware, leaving the original drivers just lying around causing problems...

ever tried moving from ati to nvidia without removing any drivers?

also, i wouldn't have a daw with the internet anywhere near it

that means you need antivirus, spyware protection and a firewall...

have a look at xplite for stripping out tons of shit from your windows build

...another option would be to try out vmware or microsoft virtual pc and build a daw in that

it uses virtual hardware tho, dont know how audio software would run on a virtual basic as fuck soundcard

if you only have one computer for internet and tunes, i'd look into dual boot or virtual pc's or a linux bootcd for surfing

much safer than exposing your daw to the innernets, also you can strip out lots more shit

maybe squeeze in another vsti (:
