hello,

i've just made this tune tonight, sampling vinyls with pitch manipulation and playing guitar. i intended to encode it @ 20kbps but I post the 192kbps mp3 as well for those who'd die listening to such hardcore dirty compression.

20kbps:

192kbps:

i think i'll change the guitar theme melody a bit, and i have to record a beautiful improv in place of that crappy one.

anyway, tell me what you think, this track's nothing like anything i've done before. makes me wanna get a real saxophone.

wow I really liked this. i'd like to hear an EP of this released by you. that saxophone sample melted my bones. i liked the atmosphere of the compression @ 20kbps but overall the pop and dimensions from the @192kbps was wicked and grabbed me with larger/stickier fingers.

I liked both versions. The first version would sound really good as sort of a transition track on an Amon Tobin album.

i really liked the jazzy edge the sax gave it, personally id develop that mood much more than the backing track. it has real style to it.

the sub seemed absolutely booming btw

im about to listen to the higher quality version now...

id say drench that sax in reverb until its so far away u can barely hear it. the sub still sounds quite booming, although it could be described as lush depending on who u are.

this is a really nice track, if ur thinking of doing more to it id say try and explore the more sloping jazz runs that crop up here and there at the moment. and definately send the sax off into some heavy reverb, at the moment the naffness of the synth thing u used is just too apparent.

GOOD WORK!

thanks for the long comment, but i don't get what you mean "daffness of the synth thing". it's just piano, sax and explosion sample from a vinyl, and guitar. when i made this track it made me want to buy a sax cause i really want to be able to change those melodies the way i want! it sucks depending on samples (which is why i almost always use synthesis).

the sub sounds great on my system but i haven't played it anywhere else yet. might sound shit in the living room stereo! is it too loud for you? or just the attack?

i like the crackly vinylish sound of it

that's because i treat my vinyls bad :) they crackle a LOT!

and thanks everyone else who replied. don't have anything by amon tobin (had one ep but gave it away - not a fan).

other opinions still welcome of course :)

i meant the sax tone sounds like a synthesised sax, and thats what makes it sound tacky.

the bass is nice but it seems quite a bit too loud, try playing the tune really loudly out of some shit little headphones or really quietly out of monitors and it should become more apparent.

This is warm. Mmmm...

What I love most about this track is probably how well the bass fits the feeling of this tune. Warm, round, and soft.

I'm not sure what to think of the noise halfway through the track? Doesn't sound right. Perhaps more warm crackling sounds with tons of reverb would do the trick?
