haha, Gescom MiniDisc on CD.. on vinyl on MP3

from what I remember the tracks were meant to be played in random order, which minidiscs were able to do gaplessly. you might be able to replicate this with the digital (and digital vinyls) but definitely not with a conventional cd player

Seems to be available again, CD is cheaper than .mp3, .wav and .flac.

Lol at the individual track prices. Pricks (Part 4) for only €1.35. Well worth the 5 seconds. The whole album would cost €118.80 in individual tracks.

true that.

it was meant to be played on random on a MiniDisc player. and it was fun to do so.

it just seems daft to me to put it out on CD. what is the point? - total waste of time+money that, imo.

For a long time, the only way to acquire MiniDisc legally was to buy the CD, which was a convenient delivery system for ripping the tracks to an HDD or media player, which preserved the intent of the original release. The CD's just an archive, really.

I can see why folks still want a physical media copy of any release, although I'm apparently in the minority now.

Edit: although, to be honest, MiniDisc actually flows rather nicely in its standard running order. It's just not a particularly stunning Gescom release if played as a standard LP.

it's not that. it's just i'd rather have the MiniDisc or the flac, or nothing.

thankfully i have the MiniDisc, tho. not that it's that great, tho, like you say.

tis an interesting release, tho... playing it on random... and it being a MiniDisc! very novel :)

tho

Does anyone know if the FLACs are rips from the minidisc or from the original source ? Main reason being that I'm 90% sure that R M I Corporate ID 1 is source file for Mira Calix's track Humba (it has the recognisable shuffling through samples and raw data screeches like if you load a .mod (or similar tracker format) as a raw file into a wave editor). And if the FLAC is from the original source there might be a chance of getting back to the original file it was made from ...

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
