played a hefty amount last night. this is probably the first game ever where i've actually been inclined to obey real world rules. i'll find myself trying to actually parallel park in spaces, stopping at red lights, looking both ways before i run out into the street, etc. sometimes i'll just be driving through the streets, listening to an old skool jam on the radio, taking in the sights. totally surreal. the whether effects are brilliant. they really give you that real world feeling. it gets foggy, rainy, hazy, sunny...um, night-timey.

one thing that really annoys me though is the inability to save at will. i'm just getting really sick of this in games. why? i don't get it. why can't i just press start, save my game and quit anytime i want to? it's bullshit. i understand not being able to save during a mission, but any other time in the game i should be able to save and quit without having to drive all around the damn city. it's just a cheap ploy to keep me playing.

i want to check out the multiplayer, but i kept getting booted when i tried to meet up with my friends on a party list. maybe it was my connection, but the 2 times i tried, it would boot me off and then my console would freeze up on a load screen and i'd have to restart.

some cunt just offered me an amazing pc amazingly cheap and it means i cant get this game because buying a computer game instead of the pc would be almost as stupid as wiping your crack with a brillo pad.

it's been revealed now that the PS3 version only runs in 640p, while the Xbox 360 does full 720p resolution. lol, the inferior console wins again.

could be connection speed. I got booted twice last night after two very intense firefights. I think there was too much going on onscreen.

it does autosave after every mission, that should help a tad. Having ot go back to Roman's apartment constantly is sort of ass, I agree. Go climb the roller coaster and unwind:)

Oh god, don't start comparing the ps3 and xbox versions please and turn this into some retarded system wars thread. Even if the ps3 version has 90 less lines then the xbox version, is written in many reviews that the ps3 excels at the post processing, pop-ins, and aliasing. You are gonna get good results on either version you get.

everyone knows Halo 3 looks like ass, that's one reason everyone bailed to COD4, superior HD graphics.

also, initial comparisons of the 2 ver of GTA on Kotaku:

"Initially, it appeared that the PS3 suffered from more noticeable aliasing than its 360 counterpart, but after eyeballing the final retail copy, they appear to be on par. I noticed that the paint filter applied to cover some of the game's imperfections appeared a tiny bit muddier on the PS3 version, with night time scenes seeing more streakiness."

so far i have to say that this is by and far the best multiplayer experience ive ever had. a few of my friends went into free roam of the whole city last night and tried out this little game. i read about some guys from ign or something doing this. you get all of them into a helicopter and fly them to the top of a high building (empire state) and drop them all off with rocket launchers. then someone proceeds to fly the helicopter and try and pick them off with the onboard guns while the others try and take the heli down with a rocket.

amazing

Shrug, I really shouldn't get pulled into these troll posts. Rubin I always see you in these video game threads, and you always seem to pick whatever side suits you at the moment. I could explain that you should follow your own links and read what this random forum user who "counted the alias" lines said about the ps3 version and how he still thinks its superior, or I could quote every review that mentions that the ps3 version looks nicer, but instead I think I'll just say that really this argument is silly and pointless, and just quote you instead:

yea, the autosave is handy, but i'm talking more about when i'm just roaming around the city, not doing any specific mission and i have to leave the game, the choice is to either just quit and deal with losing my progress or drive across town to roman's house. it's a minor complaint, but it happens in a lot of games and there isn't any reason for it these days.

i had a slightly related question. i know that you can save cars you steal by parking them in a certain spot...i thought that spot was right outside roman's apt, but the little arrow doesn't show up in the spot for me anymore. is it supposed to show up or do i just park the car out front and it'll save? where's the garage when i want to pick it up again or swap it out?

has anyone tried typing the url www.whattheydontwantyoutoknow.com in the internet cafe's computeR?

apparently its like god-mode and seems to be a riff on the matrix

im really slowly progressing through the game and havent gotten to this part yet.

my complaints about this game are minimal so far, i was hoping for more inside building freeform type roaming but it seems to be just like the old game, only a small handful of locations you can actually walk into.

I also noticed they improved the jumping and grabbing, but not as much as they could have. There should be a way to leap and then grab onto stuff like a prince of persia running jump & grab. I find it very frustrating that if he cant reach something with his feet on a jump that he cant grab it with his hands. is this ability learned later perhaps? Also the driving while shooting is still very cumbersome and limited, i was hoping you could knock out the front windshield this time and shoot any weapon out the front like a tank!

Also can you save custom phone numbers in the phonebook ? i was trying to save one of the cheats in my phone but couldnt figure out how

So, a pretty well hidden pigeon for any who might be interested (Serpico...)

Next to Romans cab office there's that road that goes down onto the industrial estate. Stay alongside that wall by the road (on the higher side) and you'll see some pipes you can jump onto. Jump onto these, follow the pipes as they curl round the building and shoot the pigeon you get to.

i'm wondering what the motorbikes are like, are the motorbikes good,

They're awesome.

But it's even cooler to grab a car and then collide head-on with a motorcycle in multiplayer. I actually laughed more than a couple of times playing multiplayer today.

theres no countryside. its pure urban. you'll find areas that are less populated, like gate in communities and then rough areas and such. but theres no filler like SA.

i enjoyed SA but the map was almost too big and really a lot of the places were useless.

the greatest video game moment ive ever experience is flying a helicopter over liberty city as the sun sets in the horizon and all the lights start coming on in the city. fucking gorgeous.

Theres a yellow parking line box outside romans house, you can fit two cars in teh spaces and they will be saved there.

Also, as for the save thing, you can hop in a cab and go to romans house. and while on the ride you can skip the journey so its pretty quick.

One of my favorite video game moments was in the countryside on SA. Flying in a prop plane over the desert listening to the rare groove station .. that was awesome.

One of my more notably favorite moments in GTA4 so far was the first time i saw lightning in the dark and then heard the thunder a few seconds later.

dude i could care less which version people bought. i was just defending the Xbox against PS3 fanboys who think their console is superior just bc Sony tells them it is. fun is the only thing that matters, and i'm having a blast with the other watmmers on XBL.
