YEK
so i have this 16 channel mackie mixer. it's the same type dmx krew uses, whatever, i know.... the thing is it's a bit hissy. i'm doing everything on hardware now and i'm wondering if this is going to be a very bad thing. if you heard hiss in a track what would yer reaction be? could i maybe filter it out on cool edit when i'm done and after i save the master mixdown as a wav? Mr.Sensi
If I like the music I wouldn't give a fuck. I'd want higher quality, but I'd be happy just to have some new music. I'm a picky fuck. ten fingers ten toes
I doubt its the mixer causing the issue. Unless you have some equipment that is providing a seriously weak signal that you're having to boost with a ton of gain, even cheap mixers are pretty quiet. I'd say its far more likely somewhere else along the path (like the method by which you are recording, or some of your gear itself or some of your cables). YEK
nope it's def the mixer, it has issues, lights that stay lit, fader movement static, and the ever present buzz. it's a solid machine though, would it be wise to try and remove hiss with a program like cool edit? ten fingers ten toes
You get static bursts when you move the faders? Cracking it open and cleaning contacts might help if that's the case. Could the "Buzz" be a ground loop hum? Waves X-Noise does a fairly decent job of getting rid of noise, but there's a very fine line for it between "helped some" and "waug, sounds like everything is being run through some shitty filter/FFT effect". YEK
well it was taken to shop to fix it up a bit and supposedly the dude fixed a bit of the noise but really wasn't that accustomed to fixing mixers so he couldn't do much. supposedly most of the noise is gone, though, i havebn't been able to plug it in yet. i have a feeling he didn't do a stellar job as he didn't even charge for his work. Guest hahathhat
plz post recording of the noise depending on whether it's a hiss, buzz, or hum, i'd recommend different courses of action. Guest 277: 930-933
Hiss is fine, if you listen to any number of older recordings you can hear a distinguishable hiss in the background. I like it, makes things breathier, more organic etc.blablabla.
