Ochre Download Store

Hi chaps,

After deliberating the best way to go about a download store for the past few weeks, I've finally cobbled together a my own here.

I'd be grateful if you could have a quick look, see if everything looks and works the way it should in your browser, test the cart, player etc., the let me know if anything breaks.

Basically, I'm still giving away whole tracks, but at 128kbps 22.05kHz mp3 instead of the old VBRs. Then, you have the option of buying 320kbps mp3s for $0.79 or FLACs for $0.99, with further discounts for bundles (i.e. all 31 tracks for $15/$20, mp3/FLAC). Does that sound like a good price point, realistically?

Interested in your opinions/feedback, thanks.

Oh, also made up some T-shirt designs for fun. The Lemodie one has turned out especially good, if I do say so myself.

i would prefer having mp3s as v0 instead of 320, imo. smaller files and the soundquality isn't much poorer.

a quick look and the site seems to work as it should with opera.

i really like the store but it would be great to have information about the size of the songs and the track length

by this you could also show how much more they receive by purchasing flac

sure its obvious but not directly

Woah, haven't heard from you for a while Chris. Hope everything is going well !

Site looks good but I too second a v0 selection, plus track length would be grand.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Cheers for the feedback guys! Very much appreciated. :wink2:

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to go for v0 over 320, but at the end I thought for the sake of compatibility (a few players still seem to have probs with VBRs) I'd better stick to the CBRs at as high a quality as possible. I'm also a bit unsure of whether to go for the new or old VBR encoding - the new is meant to sound better, but I've experienced the odd horrible encoding artefact on some sounds. Thought I'd play it safe, seeing as though I'm charging! Would be easy to add an additional bundle though in v0 - might try that actually, thanks.

Yeah, file sizes would be handy wouldn't they? I should try and add them somewhere---at the moment I've only got the sizes for the huge bundles noted, and even then only on the download link page, after purchase. Should try and add them...

Cheers Kaen - hope you're pleased with the shirt. The Lemodie one is fabric dyed, so you don't have a great slab of inflexible transfer on the front, and the colours were reproduced almost perfectly.

Thanks for the very kind words, loganfive. :smiling:

Good work man! This is real slick.

May I ask how you pieced this all together? In the next year or so we're thinking of making a download store for our latest short film and don't even know where to start googling! Hehe...

If you don't wanna discuss it too in-depth on the forum a pm of email would be appreciated...

Thanks Dane. Well, it's created around E-Junkie, which generates code for each item to post on your site, and then brings up their javascript shopping basket when clicked. All you have to do is copy and paste the link for each item, perhaps alter the icons, and you're set.

I just wanted to integrate it with a little flash player too, so I used one that had a javascript API to accept play commands from the track links, and then report information about the current track. Grabbed a free tooltip script for the track info so I didn't have to clutter up the table, and it's almost done. I'd like to make the buttons interactive, but that's not essential at the moment so it can wait.

If you're happy coding javascript and php you'd be better off building your own system or even just incorporating one of the free shopping cart solutions like Zencart, but I'm rubbish at coding and would not know where to start making my own instant automatic download scripts etc.

Aces - thanks! REM Sleep Research is signed to Toytronic Records, off my first album.

i haven't listened to your stuff in forever, i probably should make an effort to. i remember listening to one of your sets back in 04 or 05, truly fantastic stuff. some awesome, melodic stuff back in that.
