Funckarma - Stub Dane EP

was visiting funckarma's webpage, which i tend to do from time to time, and it seems they're making a foray into dubstep - apparently they've been doing dubstep dj sets and the like...

in any event, there's an EP coming soon on highpoint lowlife that's going to be some of their 'dubstep experiments' - if you go to funckarma.com you can preview "woodface".

i personally think it sounds pretty wicked... although i'm not sure how strictly it adheres to the "dubstep rules of engagement".

i know funckarma generally isn't liked around here, but i suggest peeps go take a listen, as it's pretty cool.

i dunno, i had been listening to Solid State for the first time in ages the other day and while i've always kind of liked it, i think i was finally starting to get it. so, i'm all in the mood for funcken related antics. i liked their forays into techno and hiphop but there's something about them doing dubstep that seems like overly cynical band wagoneering.

i'll probably give it a go anyway.

i would agree that doing the dubstep thing would be kinda bandwagonish, but i give them a bit of credit for always having cited reggae and dub influences - i can hear a great deal of that in some of their work.

and again, woodface isn't, as far as i understand the genre, strictly dubstep sounding. i'm genre-retarded though, so that might be me. i'm waiting for someone to write a dubstep track with the high-hat shuffled 1/16 earlier in the measure and coin a whole new genre... tech-retro-funkstep or some such.

i love funckarma. only just recently got into them. but bion glent (yes. a sublight release) is awesome!

the smizm ep is awesome! solid state. the parts EPs. it's all very good stuff.

looking forward to this new release.
