What does AFX music make you think of?

Recommended Posts

Dunno why these threads keep getting lost.

Yellow Calx: Richard pouring a cereal in a really cool way

Laughable Butane Bob: Electric Shocks and flashing colours, really cartoonish crying.

Bit: Some embarrassing secret has just been revealed. The modern version of "wa wa wa wa waaaaaah".

.0180871l (AB3 CD, track 5): Sonic raindrops.

Little Lord Faulteroy Mix: A kid keeps getting bullied because he has Richard's face, so he gets the screamy guy from the Come To Daddy video to frighten them to death (not sure if this has been posted before).

Vas Deferenz: A really monged-out, pallette-altered, bizarre episode of Countdown, with presenters getting assassinated, odd words, and Carol Vorderman's lack of dressing skills.

Donkey Rhubarb: Gay.

Polynomial-C: How similar this sounds to the likes of Phillip Glass.

Ventolin (Crowsmengegus Mix): Screaming, clanky robots. Then a nice city place. Then a radio sting.

ziggomatic 17: Richard's ultimate achievment. He's always been interested in making his music sound like a video game, and this track does just that

Polynomial-C puts an image in my head of me shooting through a water-park like tube through outer space.

PWSteal.Ldpinch.D just makes me feel good, puts an image in my head of having a good time in friends, or dancing in a club on drugs

(even though I don’t dance or go to “techno” clubs)

Home Made Polysynth reminds me of being sad and alone

Green Calx makes me think of breakdancing. You know, with cardboard and a ghettoblaster, because that song is very 1980’s Electro-hop sounding.

And I’m not talking about gay ass “Step up” MTV dancing type shit, OLD SCHOOL BREAKDANCING.

Not anymore, but I rmeber the first few times I ever heard Come on You Slags! It made me think of people shooting with lazer guns

cow cud is a twin reminds me of resivor dogs for some reaon

4- stop motion animation

Laughable Butane Bob- a little green monster flying around

pulsewidth- awesome dancing

Flaphead- robotic fish

mt st michel - seizures

blue calx- a submarine house at the very bottom of the ocean

Ptolemy- inanimate objects walking around and dancing

idk im going to listen to these and write them as i think about them so these are kind of forced =[

green calx makes me think of going in a space elevator to a choochoo train going through a sewer and then playing goosebumps the videogame (but you're a wolf)

polynomial-c is reading a book in a comfy chair and when you tilt the book it filters the bassline and when the drums drop the camera swirls around the guy and then the building disappears and you're outside in front of a nice sunset and the strings are like WAH WAH WAH and you cry and then they go away and the moon comes out but then richard hits you with the reverse and it rewinds like a movie but then when it drops back in its a totally different scene =-o

PWSteal.Ldpinch.D reminds me of band class where this kid would always play that beat. After a minute in it's a car ride though. Like through town and everyones like YEAH and opening up their windows and shit and then the melody comes in again and theyre like YEAH and like stick their heads out the window and everyones like YEAHHHHHH MATE

Ptolemy - rdj is in space playing with cowbells and he gets chased by people in spaceships. lots of spirals. he throws fl studio popup windows at them and they blow up.

vordhosbn - a white alarm clock and being young

Blue Calx - submarines. and then the voices come in cuz sean connery died. or got caught in that one movie or whatever. THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. yeah. submarines in a red sea during october

just kidding i opened pulsewidth and i cant even type anymore im cumming

Backdoor.Ranky.S: A spaceship slowly dragging through space. There's a blue filter on the lense.

[equation]: How bloody cool a video of this by Chris Cunningham would be.

Praze-An-Beeble: Beetles bouncing around, pianos getting smashed, trampolines, things crashing through the ceiling/flooor, the end of Nightmare on Evergreen Terrance (Simpsons halloween episode) where Groundskeeper Willie makes funny faces. Oooooh, lots of things.

[elephant song]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crushing_by_elephant

Asthma Beats Mix: Powder in zero-gravity, some kind of alien world.

Tamphex (Headphuq Mix): A woman trapped in a lift, with TV screens showing a half-rotted head singing the lyrics with a really serious expression and maybe a slight grin as the woman in the lift drowns in blood while trying to shove things into her to stop the flow, then a robotic arm stops her (why stop when your period starts?), only for the kid from The Shining to see the lift opening at the end.

BTW, "Donkey Rhubarb: Gay" is a reference to this song either being really happy or really annoying. And the girlish packaging.

i may have mentioned it here before, but a friend and i were driving around the boonies of upstate new york enjoying hand-rolled cigarrettes when we found ourselves at niagra falls. i suggested we go scope it out, he promptly became very pissed, said he'd been there once, it was total crap, and he REFUSED to go there again

i tried to argue him into going but i settled for him releasing his death grip on the lighter

OK, this topic might be worth a bump.

[peel sessions #3] (6:50): World War 3. Red skies, fire, bombs going off etc.

Zeros and Ones, Aphex Twin Reconstruction #2: Having loads of horrible panic attacks

Start As You Mean To Go On: Green flashes of electricity, a huge laser display, and traditional Japanese buildings.

Akunk: A Russian game show involving lots of derelict buildings.

.942937: Acid rain falling from nanotech-filled clouds.

the OPENING of snivel chew has always made me think this little music video...

as the song starts, you see a gear turning in time. at the end of each measure, there's a hard cut (no zoom or dolly) to a wider angle. you see the gear turning other gears that totally surround it... out, off into infinity. gears start to get very small and far away.

at 0:22, the camera shot goes back to it was at opening (also hard cut probably, hadn't thought of it until now). however, the gears are differently colored, or have little hands instead of teeth or something wacky like that. then it repeats as before...

SAW 85-92

schottkey 7th path - A humid marshland, bubbling swamps.

ageispolis - white fog, faint flashes of light within

ptolemy - weird exotic plantlife bouncing happily

WATMM - seafoam collecting on shiny colorful rocks, glistening in the sunlight

green calx - first 16 seconds makes me think of a subway train trying to stop and crashes, then after that i'm not sure

Hedpheylm - Desolate arctic wastelands and distant electronic noises drawing your attention. I have the same visual for Spots from SAW II

xtal - Gently Riding a huge corsair thru the clouds, over waterfalls, over bustling cities. All of which are on a sunny day

Tha - a long dim blue hallway

Clams opening and closing rhythmically, ripples going thru the waters surface

I - a small white bird gliding thru the air

heliosphan - an aerial dogfight, not so nice

Delphium - a huge collection of birds

Actium - just perfect tranquility

he's great with reverb, too... but yeah, there's just a raw feeling you get

a lot of this thread is people taking that raw feeling and painting it with their experiences (they associate it with things that give them the same sort of feeling)

Out of a lot of other electronic musicians, I have always looked at his music as being very raw, not over done with digital effects or clean cut beats. This is what I particularly enjoy about his earlier stuff, like the Analaoge Bubblebaths, and although music technology has advanced more since the 90's, he still manages to keep that raw charm going in many of his tracks, e.g the hums from machines in the Analords is just one example. I think it's just because he seems to have always been fond of using analog gear in his work, I'm sure that will carry on.

(grass) from SAWII makes me think that i'm in one of the dungeon's from Zelda twilight princess
