Fred McGriff
so how do you build a tune based purely or mostly on samples? do you look for things in the same key? and once you find things, what methods do you employ to reconcile their BPMs? cut ups? time stretch? share with me your processes for building sample based music. Dpek
I usually cut up samples in Recycle and adjust them in Reason. It's really simple and easy. Velazquez
I have a huge folder of drum breaks. I have a folder of video game samples. I have a folder of sound bytes from movies etc I have a large collection of easy listening albums. I usally run drum breaks through a plug in like supa trigga, hosted in Ableton. I scatter the samples as if I was in a fit of Delirium Tremens. I make bad tunes. pylonbitch
1. listen to all of meat beat manifesto's early back catalogue at least three times. 2. collect all the loops, breaks, freaky sounds, film clips, bits you like from other peoples records, nursery rhymes, basslines, etc etc etc etc ad nauseam. 3. cut'n'paste... if it works, it works. remember timestretch and pitch correction can occasionally be your friend. look out for annoying artefacts though. GO.
