hey guys,

i started playing round with some lil casio keyboards i bought recently. tonights the first night ive had a chance to actually write something with them, and i immediately thought of all u glitch lovers on here. its not the most polished track ever, only been working on it for a few hours but its pretty cool. lots of nice digital noises.

I might have let those intro chords play out a bit more. In other words, I thought the drums came in a bit too early. Really liked the drums though. And maybe a little variation on that repeating chord line in the first half? Usually I like repetition of chords on stuff like this but for some reason I kept expecting some sort of variation and it never came. Liked the chords and synth sounds themselves a lot though.

All in all, good.

im done for tonights session. wish i had more time to spend doing music, i hate having to cut short near 12 o'clock due to work. the best stuff always comes about after several hours as the sun comes up :(

its changed pretty drastically since the previous version, so i dunno what you'll make of it.

Just listened. I really love the atmosphere on this. The end atmosphere is great, but personally I think before that, when it has that cold empty vibe, it should get a bit more intense.

thanks derek

yeh the first section is gonna get some more treatment, tonight perhaps. i was edging towards bringing in some really distorted bass but decided to concetrate on the end ambience first, to avoid just sitting it in cold digital land for too long.

good feedback

listening now...

heavy/dark dubstep vibe to start. the muted sub bass sounds very good with the drum kit... but i was some INTENSE bass to come in before the pads, some 150-300 bass with some layered (and distorted) sub Hz.

the production is lush and beautiful, as always... however, i feel like all the elements here are in the background, laying the groundwork for something else to happen. there is certainly a melody, so its not as if there needs to be more clarity there... but maybe some harsher sweeps that stand out, and some more intense bass, as described....

anyway, nice work. would love to hear any further revisions.

cheers,

eric

nice bends, what Casio keyboards are they?

I played with a Casio MT210 and couldnt get shit out of it!

the clue's in the title ;)

casio sa-2 and pt-80

and i nicked a few sounds from a yamaha fm synth

the body of the track is from the sa-2 its the only one ive bent properly so far. can get some awesome runs out of it if your lucky. theyre cheap as hell to pick up and the bends are fairly straight forward once u get into it. if u look up circuit bending forums and guides online theres lots of simple pointers that can get u started.

id recommend getting hold of one of the casio SA range. 1 - 10. they all have very similar boards. the changes are just in what sounds are on the chips and what casing/buttons they put around it. first port of call if u get hold of one....get a piece of wire and start shorting between the pins on the 2 chips, forget the rest of the board, u wont get much out of it. routing signals strangely through the chips is where the action is :)

i cant really say more than that cos im still learning myself.

Yea, still good but I still say you need to develop that intro a bit more and really bring out those chords because they are awesome.

i love your avatar rook :) i always think of a new york taxi-cab company owner whenever i see it. im gonna give this track some more time eventually, problem is these days i dont have the 24hour stints that i need to get shit done. the weekends are taken up seeing friends and getting messy and the weekday evenings arent long enough. i think this one definately has the potential to be fixed up something proper. ive had another play around with the structuring today and some ideas have popped into my head to develop the end section.

once i get the chance to approach that first section properly im gonna build in a more substantial theme with some heavier/more pronounced bass.

i shall keep u posted.

ive been kinda drifiting in the realms of dubstep since just before christmas, so well spotted :)

what du mean by 150-300 bass? frequency range?

i did actually record a lead part on the fm synth which built up and cut through in the high end. it sounded really nice as it peaked but i decided to take it out for the time being.

all the feedback's helped alot actually. just gotta be careful not to try n cater too much to the suggestions and just stick to pleasing myself. thats usually the safest bet.

i appreciate the responses

Yeah i've been thinking of bending an SA keyboard, i've seen the schematics around lol

I've been on the hunt for an SK5 or SK1 to build a modular, korg ms type set up with panel but I don't think i'll ever get round to doing it lol. I've been trying to bend my MT210 but i've got a few things out of it but not much!

The TR505 I have is going to be the next in line to be slaughtered lol

Lovely dark atmosphere. These type of glitchy beats aren't usually my bag but overall seem to work in your music. Was listening to another one of your tunes so thought I'd check this out. The pads which come in later on remind me a bit of a tune off of SAW2. Like the atmosphere either way. Would have prefered it if it had remained more in dark mode as I was feeling quite cosy inside that vibe. Certainly very keen on the intro part and later part wasn't too bad but I prefer it when it was more dark. Good production anyways. Your tunes are certainly worth checking.
