Guest sero_13
I've recently got myself a macbook so i'm currently in the process of changing everything over to osx. My setup consists of an edirol ua-25 sound card with a basic 10 button midi foot pedal controller hooked up to the edirol midi in. The foot pedal sends song selection messages not notes, which ableton doesn't seem to recognise. On my old XP setup i ran Bome's midi translator to translate the song selection notes into key stroke letters, which in turn triggered clips in Live. It worked surprisingly well and became the only way i operated when jamming. So onto mac, and i cant find a similar program to bome. There's midistroke but I'm unsure of what the midi value of song selection notes are. So basically I need some kind of midi translator for mac. Does anybody know of some other ways i can get my pedal to control Live? Cheers guvnors Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/32582-midi-translators-for-mac/ Share on other sites
Guest sero_13
Ok, I've been fiddling around with midistroke and i'm pretty sure this is the program i need but I dont really understand the midi message business. Could anyone who knows about midi please take a look at the screenshots at http://www.charlie-roberts.com/midiStroke/ and tell me what num, chn and value should be. I'm pretty sure chn means channel, so i've tried to set the pedal to midi channel 1 but midi ox on windows says its just sending down the "CMR" channel. What's that? In Bome the first midi pedal button records the message FA 00. So how would I program this into midistroke? Sorry if this is a bit incoherent, i've got the flu and i've had a smoke. I might have a go at rewording this later. It's doing my head in cos I thought moving to mac would be magical, but i'm also having difficulty launching traktor in vmware fusion (I have a bcd2000 and it barely works with osx) so if you have any ideas for this as well, i'd appreciate it, Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/32582-midi-translators-for-mac/#findComment-695983 Share on other sites
Guest 277: 930-933
I don't think this program is able to convert your pedal's messages into midi. It looks like it's strictly for mapping the keys on your computer's keyboard to midi ccs. (or the other way around apparently (crazy mac users)) Do you know what the name of the protocol the pedal is using is? What make is the footpedal? Guest sero_13
OK, I've managed to sort it, i assigned the triggering of clips and buttons to a key press in ableton and then downloaded ittybittymidi and monitored what each button input on the midi pedal came up as so I'm sorted now. Cheers! Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/32582-midi-translators-for-mac/#findComment-696034 Share on other sites
