Call for submissions: IDM Tribute to Black Holes!

Hello fellow electronic musicians.

So black holes are extremely electronic music, as they proved so by winning the 2008 What is the Most electronic music Thing Tournament in a solid win over runners-up space stations. They iced their victory by striking the deepest musical note ever observed, a b-flat 57 octaves below the keys on a piano. And on an even more poignant note, humans are currently pacing frantically about having their last meals before the large hadron collider at CERN will allegedly create a black hole that swallows the earth up for good.

So it is our duty, then, as artists, to come together and pay tribute to these mysterious and powerful entities, these dark and destructive bottomless incomprehensible electronic music things. If you were around last year then you know the drill, everyone makes tracks over the next few months, then we hand pick the best ones, and then we put together a compilation and release it (Deep Sea Creatures by Various Artists was the fruit of last year's labor).

The details for this year's compilation is as follows:

-Make a track inspired by and relevant to black holes. Don't forget to title it appropriately. If it is called something like "Nunavut Tundra Yak Patties" then we will know that it is another reject uninspired boc ripoff that was created long before black holes won the electronic music tournament and as such will be looked over.

-You can submit as many tracks as you like.

-The deadline to submit your tracks is Sunday, June 1st, 2008. And I'm sure this will be repeated at least a dozen times throughout this thread.

-Do not post your tracks in YLC or anywhere else publically. Submit them directly to me via PM or you can email them to futonic-at-gmail.com. If they are posted publically before the deadline then they will probably not make the compilation.

-Format will be CDr like last year. However, I'm interested in doing vinyl, so format may be subject to change (i.e. digital download + 7" or 12" of top 2-5 tracks)

-Judging will be based on quality of track and relevance to black holes (ask yourself, does the feel of your track do a decent job of conjuring up something black-hole related?).

-10 minute epic tracks, though appreciated, are less likely to make the compilation, and even less likely to be featured on a 7" record with 4.5 minutes a side.

I think that about covers it!! Let's make this friggin' awesome. Invite your friends! The more tracks the merrier! Feel free to discuss / ask questions in this thread.

This sounds like a great idea, it's kind of funny how these things that suck up everything that comes near it can be so inspiring.

i've already started on a track and another track spawned from that one too... so i'll have 2 probably!

how many judges are there this year?

we had five last year which was a good number so five or six this year
