anyone using the Korg EMX1 Electribe MX?

Recommended Posts

played with one in the store today, and it's sweet. seems like a dumbed down instrument but it's so versatile you can't help but have fun with it.

I used to work at a GC and i'd remake dr dre tunes on it and reroute the audio to the monitors in front of the tritons where the g-funks would create their anthems to save on floppy to come in later and keep working on. chaos ensued. nothing funnier than watching dude turn the triton off wondering why dr dre keeps on truckin thru his monitors.

Had to make a blank patch at 60bpm to cue the dre so i'd have time to get out of the room tho

Oh my god. Win.

ive got one somewhere, they are fun for a bit but they realy cant handle much. once you have a nice beat going 2 synths lines and it starts dying as the kicks come in and stuff. only found i could use it with another thing to record things with on it seperately.

i was going to get the EMX1 but opted for the ESX1 because I didnt need the extra synth parts and like the addition of sampling.

If you turn off the accent part and lower the level it's not as bad.

Get the sx, unless you want the 3 extra synth parts. Unlimited possiblities. Mx is stuck with whats in the box, sx you can sample anything on. Get you a smart media card and reader and you're set. It's not a dumbed down machine (granted yes, there are certainly limitations), just has an awesome interface that makes music production somewhat fun and interactive.

They are great live especially but there's issues with the time it takes to take an electribe jam into your Recording software, as you can only send out one stereo source and two individual sources. Bit of a pain for me but its a little better if you send almost everything to the stereo out and your bass drum and snare or bassline to the seperate outs, that way while you still can't mix the individual tracks from the steroeo mix down, its easier to eq and compress, etc since you are leaving out your main parts and can mix them in seperate (or recreate them).

i'm getting very close to buying one of these beasts, but i'm leaning toward the MX because i have enough sampling software setup on my pc. from the videos i've seen, the SX is mostly used to sample breaks and vocals, but can you sample simple notes, like a "G" and map it across the keyboard for a new voice? i've read the voices in MX are limited, but with the adjustable parameters, the 3 chained effects can have an infinite number of combinations. i would be using the MX to compose, and maybe send through a Kaoss Pad, then record into Ableton to fuck wit some more.
