usb mixers

usb mixers let you record onto your computer right? i was looking at something different, firewireboxes and stuff like pro tools designed hardware and it's REALLY expensive. then i discover these usb mixers....

if this is really what they are used for i am looking for one with 10 line ins. i don't want to buy something to expensive though i'm not going to buy a behringer either...

Dont go with USB, its slow and shitty and most USB boxes will only stream the summed 2 channel output from the mixer. I have a Phonic Helixboard Firewire mixer (they have 12, 16 and 18 channel versions). I get 1ms latency at 96khz streaming 5 stereo pairs in over firewire. Highly recommend something like this.
