Guest Glass Plate
I can't find an article saying it at the moment, but he's supposedly having 8 solo albums coming out this year? So far there was Appocalypse inside an orange (actually 2007 I guess) and Calibration. Also a new scabdates album and another full length mars volta album. Pretty fucking nuts, any of you people listen to him any? I think he can be cool at times, some of the solo stuff is a bit too wanky. Guest bitroast
reading wikipedia. "In an interview with Omar on February 22nd, 2008 before his concert in Copenhagen, Omar mentioned that if the record label doesn't interfere, he expects the new album and the australian concert DVD to be released by the end of the year, along with 8 of his solo recordings." !! that'd be awesome. that show was the best live show i've been to. Guest margaret thatcher
yeah, saw them in manchester a few months ago. live, they vary from being absolutely amazing to just being art-wankery. on albums, they'll never live up to deloused in the comatorium. Guest Glass Plate
have you heard any of the previous ones? They're never really solo albums, always tons of other musicians involved (including lots of mars volta musicians). It's usually just a bit less intense version of mars volta. Some times I dig it. Guest margaret thatcher
yeah, but often it's very repetitive, boring and wank. he needs some kind of quality control, seriously. Guest brianellis
yeah i remember checking out one of his solo albums because reviewers kept saying "bitches brew meets mahavishnu" blah blah blah. It's like someone trying desperately to do that. I remember some of the riffs even sounding kinda nu-metalish. You gotta remember that Omar is essentially a punk guitarist. Guest The Vidiot
At the Drive-In were amazing and nothing else will ever top their albums. These two are just wacking off. Commatorium on the other hand, many many times. haha yeah. i liked their first two albums alot. then amputechture came out and i only gave it a few listens. still haven't got past the 2nd or 3rd song on bedlam. at this point i also absolutely cannot listen to frances the mute anymore. de-loused is definitely their best. that said, i saw them live last year and they were awesome. they also keep me interested with comments like the new album will be mellow and acoustic.
