maybe i have to be on drugs to get it

...any one of those three statements would probably start a flame war on the autechre forum.

i'm not going to use such a root-level name on a whim dude. it'd have to be a really super cuntish track, and if that's all you want to listen to then i suppose i understand

HELLLO PPL

i have a minimalistic setup. this stuff is live, and i don't generally use the computer, except to bounce my minidiscs into cubase. before i got into live jamming, i did everything with a mouse. i still do that, but it's really seperate from this stuff.

first live bits i did were with just one piece of gear - and not always the same piece, either. once i'd gotten bored of all that, i started using two bits o kit at once. wound up liking mixer+mpc1000+ms2000+fatman a lot, and still use that combo as a base a lot of the time. now i also regularly use a pair of bent casios, coron ds7 clone, novation knobdaddy, and other little delightful boxes of noise... but i still am doing what i've been doing all along, just changing the combo of gear slightly every track... just so i can see how it goes.

samples evolve similarly. i use a set of kits that came from akai a lot because they're nice and generic. i've gradually started to accumulate a lot of weirder shit on there though, and i'll often pull memorable kits from old projects.

i try rearranging my gear physically - i.e. swap where the casio and the mpc are. i spent a good part of a year with gear on the floor, now i'm back to deskland. wheelie chair.

i'm actually pretty stoked about how it's been going, recently. i think about what i was doing a year ago vs. now and it's gratifying.

anyways, i don't play guitar or keyboards. i play ms2000, ms2000 with fatman... each combo is kind of like a custom isntrument. like any instrument, the more i practice, the better i get. it's quite apparent to me that if i just calmly chip away at it, well... that's all i really need to do.

this morning soapbox brought to you by coffee mm

that's what i thought, judging from the sound and from all your circuit bending posts; it is pretty obvious that you work with hardware :)

great stuff man, looking forward to your next album
