chenGOD
So I'm looking to get some turntables right, not for battling or scratching...I figure just some simple 1200's will be nice? Any advice/recommendation what nots? Vestax vs Technics? Mixer recommendations? I already have a cheapo one at home, but might be nice to get something a little more upmarket...I don't need 12 channels and millions of effect sends/EQs..probably just Hi/Lo and sweepable mids... thanks for the help...in advance. Guest cakeface
vestax are better if you can afford em, they're infinitely better than 1200s/10's but you'll hear otherwise from hiphop dj's who just need to go back to the fucking 80's. pioneer do good midprice mixers with some built in effects that work quite nicely though they are fucking ugly pieces of equipment. If you want to take care of your own effects then you might as well just get a simple vestax 3 channel jobby with 3 bands of eq (some with cut switches on each band) which will set you back 300 quid or less. Guest ~ism
concur with the vestax vote. pair of pdx2000mk2's and an allen & heath xone or rane ttm mixer is probably just the ticket. cheaper than the panasonics anyway. Mr.Sensi
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DJ/...xers?sku=800910 That's a great cheap mixer... As for the turntables, I'd go with technics if you're plannin' on playing out alot. Most places have techs setup. If not, I'm sure the vestax are much better. chenGOD
So vestax's get a lot of votes here... what about Numark gear? Mr.Sensi
To be honest, I have never used a Vestax turntable, but I'm guessing they're really good. I have never even touched a new Numark table either. I use 2 Technic SL-1210MK5. That Vestax mixer has always worked nicely for me though. kaen
bollocks, vestax are kiddy toys, technics 1210 all the way m8, plus allen and heath mixer Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide kaen's signature Hide all signatures trumps toe fungus Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3464-turntablesquestions/#findComment-69283 Share on other sites
Guest ~ism
chenGOD said: what about Numark gear? pass on that. good mid level mid budget gear. but that's all it is. mixers are better than the decks - though they do have some neat design features on their latest TTX range. chenGOD
so it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.... since I'm just starting I guess I'll get something that's reasonable (Technics or Vestax although Vestax is much easier to find in Seoul for some reason)... any advice about cartridges/needles/tone arms and so on that i should look out for? I don't mean advacned tricks of the trade, I mean basic shit that I should be wary of (as I'll probably buy second hand) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide all signatures 백호야~~~항상에 사랑할거예요.나의 아들. Guest cakeface
stanton, they'll probably come with the decks, or else ortofon- doesn't really matter if you're not gonna be doing a huge amount scratching i don't think - also technics and vestax decks are the top end ones, lots of people start on them i'm sure but you could go a lot worse, just so you know, and not really any better. Fred McGriff
technics!!! just fucking look at them! they're gorgeous!! plus they are quality. i use this mixer: it's small and basic and i love it Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3464-turntablesquestions/#findComment-70612 Share on other sites
kaen
oh yeeah u cant go wrong with pioneer either, djm500 is fucking lush mixer, but if on a tight budget rane/vestax also numark are great value, i had a numark for my first mixer and it worked perfect for 7 years of ragging it all day every day. whatever u do, stay away from beltdrive tt's m8. Guest blicero
i recommend a mixer with a headphone fader... it's real nice for testing out your fade/beat-matching. anybody know what the difference is between the technics 1200 mk2 vs. the technics 1200 mk5? Fred McGriff
yeah i'm pretty sure it's just the reset button next to the pitch shifter on the mk5 (i have an mk5 and an m3d they're pretty much the same) . . . alls you do is hit the button and the light goes on and it returns it to the normal pitch without having to mess with the knob Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3464-turntablesquestions/#findComment-71036 Share on other sites
