Guest kid hideous
My computer has been crashing and seizing up a lot for ages. I finally got it fixed with a decent virus checker, but this wiped out my entire VST folder It was working like a dream for a couple of weeks, and then I reinstalled my VSTs and it has started going really slow and taking ages to start again is thre anything i can do about this because i love my VSTs, but there is no point in having them if my computer won't start up.... I feel for your bro .... that sounds like a real cunt of a situation. Maybe do a fresh install of Windows and reformat of the c drive. Guest kid hideous
it's windows XP and i already formatted my computer about 10 times trying to fix it, but there were some viruses which survived that, it's blatantly the programs themselves causing the problem the best solution i have thought of is to get ahold of a cheap computer so i can watch movies, post on internet etc while i'm waiting for my music computer to start up but i am hoping that some computery type person is going to tell me some program or setting which means i don't have to do that..... do you think an external soundcard would help? Guest hahathhat
your topic title gave me visions of a bunch of VSTs in an alley with a lead pipe as your computer walks home anyways sounds like one of your pirated plugin has got some virii goin down. them's the breaks Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/34715-vsts-hurting-my-computer/#findComment-742870 Share on other sites
Guest Tamas
Damn that sounds like a nightmare, I don't want to make you paranoid, but maybe it's possible that one of the VST installations is a virus?? Can you think of any VSTs that you installed when this all started happening? There are definitely a lot of DLL viruses, so one of those VSTs could definitely be hiding something malicious... Either way I hope that's not the case, though it'd be hard to really say anything about it without actually seeing the computer first hand, you should ask someone who knows Windows very well to check for you. Also, have you ever cleaned the inside of your computer before? It's possible that your CPU heatsync/fan is filled with dust, which would cause it to overheat and hang. One of my friend's computer's would hang every time he tried rendering movie files, and after a good cleaning of all the heatsyncs/fans with compressed air the problem went away (don't just blow it out, the moisture in your breath could ruin circuits) Good luck!!! Guest hahathhat
oh, if i'm wrong about that, install the plugins one at a time and see which one hoses it. then don't install that one next format Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/34715-vsts-hurting-my-computer/#findComment-742873 Share on other sites
Guest kid hideous
they are all freeware and demos so i thought i would be ok. and it isn't a problem with the fan or anything like that because it was working good as new until i put the plugins back on..... i thnk i'll have to follow tamas advice and check them all out... the ones that i put on are sumo db glitch camelphat(demo) camelspace(demo) dsk drumz echolive wowandflutter native instruments massive and tone2 gladiator these all came from official sites rather than pirate places..... Guest Tamas
So it's a new install of Windows? How many tasks do you have running in the task manager? Ahhh I wish I remembered the name of the program, but there is this program that automatically makes a text file of all running tasks so you could post it on a forum... And if something you installed has a task that runs in the background, if it uses 100% of the processing power, it could potentially hang your computer if there is bad air circulation... Guest kid hideous
there are 35 processes running the mem usage thing says it's under 5% and the guy who fixed it did it without formatting ihate computers Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/34715-vsts-hurting-my-computer/#findComment-742928 Share on other sites
foresense
Check the System Idle process in the task manager list, should be around 99% if you're doing nothing. pylonbitch
if you don't know what you're doing, stop using warezed ware. it's the music making equivalent of having sex with a dirty thai prostitute whilst reading a leaflet about safe sex. edit: it's more likely to be your install policies than your computer.
