Guest Helper ET
So i turned off my computer, unplugged everything, and moved it into my bedroom. then i plugged everything back in, turned the computer on, and now i have no midi control in live or reason. its just a little midi keyboard. i dont understand how turning off a computer and unplugging something could cause this, but it has. it's like the computer isnt even detecting the keyboard or something. anyone have any idea why this is happening? it's very frustrating, and i'm trying to write a song cheers! goffer
is it a USB MIDI keyboard? if so you might have plugged it into a different USB port and need to rerun the driver. Guest Helper ET
yes its a usb keyboard. i think you are right about plugging it into a different usb port, because ive had similar issues with this in the past about plugging things into the wrong usb port. also when i plugged everything back in after the move, i forgot which port it was in. so how do i "rerun the driver"? ive lost the driver CD, is the shit still on my computer? do i just need to....what do i do now? dild0 said: yep,try what he said. if not,it's time for another ilona staller action session lol dildo to the rescue!!! Guest dild0
when you plug it,it's really dead? everywhere? edit: anyway, just go on the site of the keyboard constructor and download the drivers,it's pretty simple this time Edited June 7, 2008 by dild0 Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/34890-newb-midi-help/#findComment-747001 Share on other sites

Guest Helper ET
i just made a big mistake. so i found the driver disc on a box in my closet and im all "ok, lets uninstall the driver, then do an install". so i uninstall the driver, and when i put the disc in my computer to install the driver, my computer doesnt even recognize the disc drive (my computer is a complete disaster of epic proportions). i think im fucked. Guest Helper ET
although, i just found this Quote UM-1EX is a simple USB MIDI interface, with one MIDI input and one MIDI output, that connects directly to your computer. The UM-1EX’s MIDI out can also function as a MIDI thru, providing extra flexibility and functionality. The UM-1EX offers direct support for OS native drivers for Windows or Mac OS X, so no installation disk is required. It's perfect for small MIDI studios where only one MIDI device will be connected in close proximity to the computer. * Fast and stable MIDI data transmission realized by FPT (Fast Processing Technology) * 1 MIDI in, 1 MIDI out * MIDI Thru switch * MIDI signal indicators * Complete cable-style body from PC end to MIDI ends * OS native driver support * USB bus powered * Plug and play which leads me to believe it's not over yet. can i use my "native driver" for my usb cable to work? i cant do a system restore because my files are in such a mess that it's become almost impossible to backup every file that i need for my music, and so a system format would be a rape. i've gotta keep on truckin until i get a new computer Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/34890-newb-midi-help/#findComment-747018 Share on other sites
Guest dild0
no no,i'm not talking about formatting the pc,just go in start menu>accessories>system tools>system restore there will be a calendar, just choose the most recent date available (be sure that is noe like 1 month ago) and click restore. that's it Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/34890-newb-midi-help/#findComment-747026 Share on other sites
Guest Helper ET
ok it doesnt work. i tried what you said, but when i click on the system restore button in the start menu, a little window comes up, a blank window, and it stays blank. same thing happens when i go to the search function in windows. theres just a blank window. before that, i got a little message that popped up saying i was running low on virtual memory, and some applications may not work correctly. long story short, i dont think my computer can handle a system restore at this point. when i said my computer was fucked i meant it. am i fucked for this midi thing? Guest dild0
ok..describe me all the things you've done after unplugging the pc,wtf it's impossible that it doesen't work, you didn't changed nothing, right? then, try a restart and see if you still get the blank windows,of course you can't do a system restore while you're running loads of applications. Guest Helper ET
no i cant do a system restore because im too low on virtual memory...whatever that is. the system restore application simply wont open however, i found the driver i need on the roland website, and as i tried to open the setup, i got this message: C:\Program Files\Roland\UM1_XPx64Drv101\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application. how is this shit not a valid Win32 application, and what does that even mean?!? trying the restart now....
