Guest Chimp Logic
. : | Grey Sea | : . Cheers everyone. I know many of us have been busy sweating over our Project 168 ep's so I thought I'd wait until now to post this. Finished up a new track a few weeks ago with my poet/collaborator. We recently relocated from a well-known 'big city' and wanted to tell a story about it through this track. One artist's plight against the machine, I suppose, would be the subject matter. This will hopefully end up on a release of some kind, some day, maybe expanded or contracted a bit. Languid. Downtempo. Spoken word. Grey Sea - Chimp Logic I hope you enjoy. Thanks in advance for listening. Peace. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3502-grey-sea/ Share on other sites
lo-fi
This is very nice Chimp.....I love the atmosphere in this track. Everything is very fluid and it all works well together. This is definitely worthy of release. Guest Chimp Logic
Thanks a lot lo-fi and forlon! Vocals were recorded live, with a real human being (my girl Michelle), in my studio. No samples used. Peace Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3502-grey-sea/#findComment-70513 Share on other sites
Guest zzz
im not big on spoken word. but i like every other aspect of this track. maybe if the vocals were a bit more subtle. the music is lush. i love all ive heard from you. minor down is top notch especially Edited January 31, 2006 by zzz Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3502-grey-sea/#findComment-71818 Share on other sites
Guest Chimp Logic
Cheers man. I appreciate the listen. Yeah, some people don't gel with the vocals. I put an effect on her voice that does sound a bit more 'back in the mix' on the 'UN'mySpace'd version of the track. Sometimes that compression scheme can really wreck an otherwise fine mix. I wanted it to sound almost like she was coming from a police scanner, or an old radio/televisoin. As for Minor Down, thanks! I have an EP of songs like that I want to shop around to see if anyone would be interested in putting it out. Who knows what'll happen. Anyway, thanks again for your time. Guest feta lol
i like the vocals how they are. what kind of mic do you use? Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3502-grey-sea/#findComment-73787 Share on other sites
Guest Promo
Yeah nice atmospherics. Very calming and chilled. Definitely something one would pop on in if one was in contemplative mood. Could work nicely with some fuzzy pictures in front of this. I could kinda see this work with film. I like the piano type sound that comes in around 2mins it adds another nice layer to the track. I guess my gripe would be that perhaps it goes on a bit long. Overall pretty enjoyable but a bit on the long side. Why can't we download it by the way? Cheers. I messed with the Vinyl plugin to get the scratchy/scanneresque sound to her voice. Promo, I haven't made it available for download yet because I'm still tweaking some things to make it more interesting through the duration. I recognize that there needs to be a bit more subtle variation to keep it interesting to the end. I'll let you know once it is complete if you want a copy. Thanks you two for listening. Guest Iain C
I love poetry set to music and I really enjoyed that ambient track you posted a little while ago with all the weird whispering.... However, this post of mine was pointless - I'm at college so I can't listen to this yet! But I will when I get home. Really I'm just procrastinating Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3502-grey-sea/#findComment-74154 Share on other sites
Guest terra firma
yeah, i also really like how you have the vocals on this. sounds like an electronic music version of a morphine track. very nice ambience and the spoken word (usually not too fond of) sounds well placed. really cool track, and i like that jazzy one too... minor down. Peace IT'S FUNNY CAUSE THAT MIC EVEN THOUGH LESS EXPENSIVE THAN THE NT5A BLOWS IT OUT OF THE WATER.(EVEN THOUGH THE NT5 IS AN INSTRUMENT MIC) Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/3502-grey-sea/#findComment-75135 Share on other sites
Guest Chimp Logic
Iain C, I hope you dig it when you get a chance to download and listen. It's a bit different than the hushed, whispering piece I did. Terra Firma, cheers for listening and for the Morphine comp...I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it. Great band, great writer...damn shame for the loss. Now that I listen back, the vocals do kind of remind me of their great track "In Spite of Me" (off Cure for Pain). Minor Down is about to be used by a modern dance company for an upcoming performance, which I'm extremely happy about, so there might be some small modifications to it in the future. I think I'll keep this version around but it should be interesting to see where the dance needs it to go. Thanks again for listening! Feta...no doubt, that mic is amazing for the price. Every time I use it I am amazed at how good it is. One of the best purchases I made for my studio. Ha Cheers all!
