Which is BoC's "Ziggomatic"?

Recommended Posts

Searched for a similiar thread and found nothing, so if this is jazz band blame the search function not me ay.

A while back there was a thread in the Aphex forum about "which track do you think RDJ spent the most time/effort on" in other words most complex. The main track mentioned was Ziggomatic.

But what is Board's of Canada's most complex song?

Personally I'm thinking Sunshine Recorder, I seem to be constantly hearing new sounds and ideas in that track, little drum edits and melodies floating out of the mix, little sounds and samples.

Alpha and Omega was another, it seems so repetitive at first but there is a lot of subtle mind fuckery going on, Julie and Candy is so muddy and messy (in a good way :boc: ) it's hard to tell if it's complex or just lot's of effects.

Also a lot of Campfire Headphase could be viewed as very complex, look at Chromakey Dreamcoat - Peacock Tail especially, but OSTRE is maybe the most complex on TCH.

My vote is probably Sunshine Recorder or OSTRE.

yep sorry late night ramble :fear:

I think it's complex in a different way. Actually there was a big argument about BoC's complexity in a Venetian Snares topic a while back. Where as complex Aphex is creating a song that constantly evolves and changes into something else, with BoC it tends to be just layers of sound, subtle tricks. It's all opinion I suppose.

insert Magic Window joke here.

Perhaps Dayvan cowboy for the percussion, namely the cymbals. Oscar See Through Red Eye seems very complex as well, such a wide variety of sounds blending so well. All of Geogaddi has such artistic complexity though. Hard to say which song would be the 'winner'.

And I'm sure each song is givin a ton of attention in order to come out sounding exactly like what the bros had in mind. So if your looking at how hard the song was to make, only they would know. For all we know A Moment Of Clarity could of been the most difficult sound for them to acheive.

I'm guessing their next album will be the most complex. Why else is it taking so long?

I would say Pete Standing Alone. That is a really complex track to me.

Really it seems their most complex things haven't been released. XYZ is their most complex track I've heard hands down. Also, the 11 minute track from WARP10 is really complex.

yeah I'm thinking they'll finally give us some more percussive material like the ones they've never released for some reason.

I agree. At around 4:49 of Sunshine Recorder, so much complex sampling work must have gone into getting everything to fit correctly.

XYZ is pretty complex, especially since it isn't a 4x4 measure loop. And it's fast.

Also, their remix of Why?'s Good Friday moves through a couple tracks in the same song, including the bongo craziness at the end.

Some of their remixes have a lot in them, I'm thinking of Dead Dogs Two particularly. Oscar definately has a lot of different parts, I also imagine there was a lot of work in editing down A is to B is to C to splice things together and get all the timing right.

isn't the "we love you all"-front/backwards-thing in "A is to B as B is to C" quite the complexness?

Anyway as a whole song: "XYZ" indeed - tho I'll never get used to or really like the beat part of that tune.

complex by what standard? you seem to be using the term loosely.

yeah I think he meant complex...like Ziggomatic, with all its twists and turns in musical development and textural switches. Once again, Pete Standing Alone comes up to me as that kinda track.

I would then have to say the Broken Drum Remix.

this has nothing to do with complexity...but could "Basefree" be considered BoC trying out dubstep?

If so, place the Prime Audio Soup Remix in that category.
