more details on the album recorded about the same time as alopecia.

no title, no release date. nothing.

from a pitchfork interview:

  Quote
Yoni Wolf: I'm a pretty harsh editor. I edit a lot. It's not like we record hundreds of songs and only a couple make it. Out of the stuff we did [for Alopecia], everything is going to come out in one way, shape, or form. 10 of them got plucked forAlopecia, and we added three or four more. The other 10 are going to be on another record. It's done. It's mixed. It's mastered.

Pitchfork: Why did you separate the material? What's the difference?

Yoni Wolf: The other songs have a lot less humor. The [songs on Alopecia] are funnier, and [Alopecia] is a little more angry in a way and a little aggressive. The other one is a little more sad, almost country. It is mixed like country. I mixed it with Mark Nevers down in Nashville. That was a fucking depressing time. I didn't know anybody down there, and it was just me. I was staying in this big fucking house out in the suburbs called Brentwood. There was a grand piano in there, and that's it, a bed and a grand piano. It was some friend of my parents' house that they had bought but didn't live in.

That was an interesting time, just being down there by myself and having nothing to do. Mark is not a workaholic, and I am. It would be like five o' clock, and he'd be like, "C'mon, Yoni, fuck it. Let's go get a beer." I would be like, "All right." But I'm sitting there, like, "Are we gonna get our shit done?" He's got a fucking great ear and he's a brilliant mixer, so it worked out. But by 5 or 6, he'd have his daughters over, and they'd be eating dinner or whatever. And I'd be by myself, sitting at a bar or whatever. That was a dark record to sit through and try to mix with him.

Unusual musical animals and old pals Why? and Cryptacize have joined forces with Asthmatic Kitty to release a 7" as part of the label's "Unusual Animals" series on July 22. Cryptacize cover Steely Dan's "Peg" and Why? cover Bob Dylan's "As I Went Out One Morning" on the slab, making it an extra special treat. In keeping with tradition, the record comes with an unusual animal on the cover: a West Indian manatee.
