Phasen- The Crisis is Over

After a few releases on u-cover I've decided to put out an album on the brand new and super tiny Distant Noise Records. It's a label run by Innerise (if you've heard of him). His brother, Luga (also on vu-us records) releases there, with other stuff from Cheju (u-cover, boltfish) and a few other notables on the way.

There's only 100 copies of it being pressed, and I'm quite happy with it. I'll probably make it available on archive.org for free once it sells out, but it will likely be on torrent sites after it's out anyways...just like every other CD I've released.

If anyone checks this out, do let me know what you think! Fans of classic electronic music and psychedelic downtempo won't be disappointed!

That's actually all of the artwork. It comes in a transparent cover with that folded over the CD...hard to explain.

And no, it's not on vinyl- CD only. :unhappy: This is the first year of releases on that label, thus the extremely limited number.

It'll be out in October (pre-orders before then possibly) and you can go to the shop at www.distantnoiserecords.co.uk to check it out around that time. It's about 50 minutes of music in all.

Oh-here's a 7 minute-ish sampler of the album for anyone who wants to take a listen to it. You can stream or download to make life easy. The bitrate is rather terrible, but of course the real CD will be much MUCH higher quality.

1st bit - the guitar reminded me of something else but then the whole thing sounded very boc inspired and the other influence went away.

2nd bit - more cheesy less boc. better. fades before it goes anywhere but sounds good.

3rd bit - too much fade

4th bit - lots going on. like it.

5th bit - nice

6th bit - can't say i like stretch effect on snares

7th bit - guitar. kinda missed it since the 1st bit. sounds good.

overall sounds good but not sure i need to buy it

Phasen - The Crisis is Over (Distant Noise)

Electronic pulses, acoustic guitars, hip hop and down tempo beats, Phasen has it all!

Whatever is running through this man's veins, it needs to be bottled and sold by Coca Cola. At 19 years old, Ryan Power aka Phasen, has a musical maturity and grasp that is well beyond his years. Eletronic at heart, but organic roots spread across this album branching out in every musical direction.

An almagamation of many styles and genres that are well heeled and well versed.

Bleeps, glitches and melody create an other worldly feel, almost space like. A meteor shower put on wax. It crackles, it hisses and buzzes before your eyes.

This release has a retro feel to it, like Boards of Canada but has the early innovative feel of Aphex Twin.

Fat anologue synths phased with modern digital synthetics.

Crystaline riffs, rounded basses and on more than one track, acoustic guitar.

The Acoustic guitar on "Beau" is heart wrenching.

Hip hop beats kick against that ambience and the song becomes tinged with effervescent joy. Miniscule sine waves tinkle, trickle and offset, taking the mood to another dimension and you happily go for the ride.

Does Phasen have no fear?

Well, if "Tropiconica" is anything to go by then this man is wearing a tuna swimsuit in shark infested waters.

Clocking in at 10.42 and slap bang in the middle of this record, Phasen goes the distance, punching out fractured beats that skip a nervous palpatation. Acoustic guitars breathe steadily, calming the glitchy pulses. This song shows the depth and scope that Phasen posesses. Pure experimentation, it opens the air and sound waves leaving you feeling relaxed and open eyed. Musical Ventolin.

I must confess that the first time I heard this record, I wasn't blown away.

It took a couple more listens to grasp what was going on and fully appreciate the work that has gone into this album.

"The Crisis is Over" is now a a firm favourite of mine. I'm glad I went the distance, because if I had thrown the towel in, I would not have been blissfully knocked out and had the smelling salts of Phasen to revive me...
