Very BoC alike video fragment

Recommended Posts

I've recently watched Kids (1995) again and it brought back some memories. It's a real nice movie.

But then all of a sudden at almost the end of the movie there's a 1 minute fragment with video and sound very very very boc alike. The track you'll be hearing in my youtube rip of this fragment is: "The Folk Implosion - raise the bells (2:24)" as stated on the original soundtrack cd.

Anyone else noticed this before?! who inspired who?! The only retail BoC album that old is Twoism from 1995 and Kids is from the same date. The Folk Implosion sure know their stuff...

Also a cool hip hop track is featured in this movie: "Lo Down - mad fright night"

Little is known about Lo Down but it's one hell of a hip hop song. Original vinyl released in 1994.

This brings me back to my roots. Hip hop stylee all up ins!

Anyone else thinks one of the mc's sounds hell of a lot like ODB (rip) from Wu-Tang Clan? It sounds very alike, but I don't see him being credited for this audio track.

Your not serious, are you - BoC's trademark sound was inspired by the films of the National Film Board of Canada - almost all of the early 60's-70's era films and videos have music, that, due to time and lo-fi audio fidelity, have attained a warped, detuned sound that BoC attempts to recreate. Look up actual NFBoC releases like Pete Standing Alone and you'll see that sound treatment has been around a lot longer than The Folk Implosion and BoC...

Well, my point still stands about who inspired who. Maybe both of the groups are in fact inspired by NFBOC or maybe The Folk Implosion is only inspired by BoC, which implies an indirect inspiration of NFBOC anyways.

I do, obviously, know that BoC is inspired b the NFBOC, I've got their unofficial web pages not for nothing ;)

I'd just want to know if The Folk Implosion was inspired by BoC or by NFBOC. Who'll tell....

A classic hip hop track. I can't think of any other track of the genre that sounds so underground.

Thanks for sharing.

What about "da mystery of chessboxin'" from Wu-Tang Clan (album: Enter the 36 chambers)... also same date approximately.. 1993ish hip hop!

My hip-hop will rock and shock the nation

I wouldn't say that's a typical Folk Implosion track though.

Fucking Lou Barlow. Goddamn, I'm gonna have to download some Sebadoh. I used to listen to all that shit (Dinosaur jr etc) way back in 92/93 thanks to my old roomie who was big into that (he also got me into Pavement...so that's cool. Thanks Derek!)

HELLO FREDDEE

yes i noticed this and posted a flagrant post on the yahoo board about 3 years ago. supreme wobblyness. i have tried to find more barlow material like it but it appears to have been a one-off.

Guest Pete is your friend

sounds like a wu-tang knock off. theres one guy that sounds like a knock off q-tip. then another sounds like a knock off busta in his early years. i do know what you're talking about, i miss when hip hop was fun, like that one chubb rock song treat em right. yo yo yo yo yo treat em riiiiighhhttt. or remember craig mack's flava in ya ear, that song right there is genius, the beat and samples are fucking great
