Braintree
I already went straight to the Native Instruments forum and it was less than helpful. You can't even search threads on that fucking thing. And since it wouldn't recognize my user name or let me sign up for a new account, I couldn't post a topic, so it's going here instead. So I'm writing a 5.1 surround sound piece in Logic using Kontakt, and I want each individual hit in my Kontakt drum kit to come out of a separate speaker. The problem is that the group channel insert [the only place to pull up the surround panner] effects the entire instrument, instead of the individual hit. Let me stress that I WILL NOT DO ANY AUTOMATION PANNING ON THE DRUMS. I'm doing this inside Kontakt to get around doing any automation, since that would take an eternity concerning the music at hand. I want the drums to change channels at a whim and keep moving around, not dedicated to a certain channel. I was going to do this by setting up several iterations of the same kit with different routing, and the same MIDI data, but that's not really what you need to worry about. I just need to know how to pan each individual hit into a different speaker. Any suggestions? Remember, I will not be automating any of the panning on the drums. Fuck that shit. Guest analogue wings
Each DRUM in a separate speaker or each HIT in a separate speaker? Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/36165-kontakt-3/#findComment-778993 Share on other sites

Guest analogue wings
I was hoping you were saying hit and meaning drum Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/36165-kontakt-3/#findComment-778996 Share on other sites

Guest analogue wings
I think you need to write a script. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/36165-kontakt-3/#findComment-779001 Share on other sites
Braintree
I don't think any script is going to fix a routing problem. I came across a script that can alter the modulator routing [effects routing], but not the individual channel of a sample. If you find one, though, I would appreciate it. Guest analogue wings
What you need to do is write a script to cycle through an array of constant values every time a "note on" is received. Tell it to ignore the note on for every value except "1". Now write the same script for 2, 3, 4, and 5. Create 5 instances of Kontakt, 1 running each script, each outputting to a different speaker. Set them all to listen on the same MIDI channel. I have no idea if Kontact's scripting language can do this btw Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/36165-kontakt-3/#findComment-779014 Share on other sites

Why don't you use battery instead? I do this all the time with battery in Cubase with no problems with routing. You can very easily choose a different channel for each drum, and yes you can have it be in the surround sound field but without a surround sound panner to assign what speaker to take it to. Although i may be wrong about how easy this is in Logic, i just know in cubase what you want to do is possible. Braintree
That's weird, because the battery 3 manual doesn't have any mention of surround sound, and the routing inside the plugin is always stereo. My original idea was to use battery, as I prefer it for drums, but couldn't get it to output to surround. A friend of mine said this could be done as well, and if you say you do it all the time, there must be a way in Logic. How do you go about it in Cubase? It should probably be similar to Logic, routing-wise. Braintree
Holy shit, I just figured it out in battery. I never noticed that little channel panel thing at the bottom right. Way easy indeed. Now I just need to figure out which channel is the sub.
