Macquarie Ridge

*Possible interpretation*

The Macquarie Ridge is part of a tectonic plate fault zone lying in the South Pacific ocean seafloor between Austrialia and Antartica. In 2004, a magnitude 8.1 earthquate struck this area but did not produce a tsunami, and so received little attention. Three days later, on Boxing Day 2004, a similar earthquake 9.0 magnitude occurred in the Indian Ocean, killing at least over a quarter of a million people across South East Asia.

In the BOC tune, an underwater sonar imaging device sent idown nto the Macquarie Ridge is receiving pulses of sound waves bouncing off the ocean floor. As it travels deeper, it picks up the music, sounds and voices of an ancient and unknown flooded civilisation destroyed by a tsunami. Then it moves on as before.

This interpretation ties in with the TCH artwork suggesting a plane crash and the theme of seeming pointless mass death and devastation. TCH was released in October '05 and so the Asian tsunami may have been a late influence on BoC.

of course it's all open to interpretation.

my friend died in the tsunami

This is an interesting idea, I need to look more carefully at TCH artwork.

Well, sometimes y'know, tracks are named what they are because they like the sound of the name, and it has little to do with the actual song... just my theory, though.
