MIDI Ribbon Controller?

Recommended Posts

Are they out there? are they common? how much? I don't even want one, but my friend was wanting a persephone and I was saying they're not the great he should just get a midi controller for his keyboard he already has (micron) would be more unique any ways, rather than wanting to be radiohead. I just realized though Im not sure how hard it would be to have a ribbon controller for something like the micron. I know they have CV ones for like Doepfer and moog modulars etc. I dunno, any words on the concept from the EKT of WATMM?

After a very quick google lookup it seems that they're out there. Seems lame though, just triggers the notes on a synthesizer, as if you'd plug in a a normal keyboard and just slide across all the keys, thus jumping in pitch. I don't see it working differently either.. Or it'd have to put out a very large range of numbers (linked to the oscillator frequency on your synthesizer). Hmm, actually that should be possible.. As long as stuff is assignable and your fingers are small enough to not trigger 20 MIDI numbers at a time :P

MIDI is simply a bitch when it comes to.. ..umm analog haha. A digital ribbon controller can surely work, but MIDI doesn't have a very broad range of data.

that doepfer ribbon controller has midi. Eowave's Persephone is something else you could look at, but it's pricey. I also think that there are diy kits available!

the whole point of this was trying to replace the persephone cheaply, by putting the same interface on a different synth.
